Mr. Dennis D. Martin, Jr.

64-5293 Hoohoa Street

Kamuela, HI 96743-8225

Dear Mr. Martin,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.

In 2006, the United Nations proposed the Arms Trade Treaty to establish international standards for the import and export of firearms to combat instability in war-torn nations. Existing international law provides no standards for the trade of firearms. In the United States, our well-developed civil society and rule of law create a stable environment within which Second Amendment rights are exercised. However, in less developed nations these protections do not exist, and easy access to firearms has contributed to substantial violence, oppression, and suffering.

Although the treaty is still under negotiation, 57 U.S. Senators have expressed their opposition to such a plan. The opposition of 57 Senators makes it unlikely that such a treaty would be ratified should the Administration send it to the Senate.

On December 7, 2011, Congressman Joe Walsh (R-IL) introduced H.R. 3594, the Second Amendment Protection Act of 2011. H.R. 3594 would cut funding to the United Nations if a treaty is adopted that infringes upon Americans' gun ownership rights, among other provisions.

H.R. 3594 has been referred to the Foreign Affairs Committee, of which I am not a member. Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind should H.R. 3594, or similar legislation, be considered by the House of Representatives during the 112th Congress.

Again, thank you for contacting me. If you would like to stay in touch with me on this or other issues of importance to you, please visit my website at http://hirono.house.gov, and sign up to receive my regular e-mail updates. Please do not hesitate to contact me again in the future if I may be of assistance to you in any way.
Heres what I got from my useless rep.

Yes usual politics. Say thanks for writing. Give you background that you already know. Don't state their stance. And then let you know they appreciative your vote.

Good job writing in. I waiting for a response too. Wonder if it will look exactly like yours?

The problem that we face with gun control is not the sweeping changes that a single piece of legislation will bring but rather, the constant erosion of our rights and liberties through seemingly innocent or benign legislation that creates unrecognized barriers to gun ownership and the use of firearms. There are so many examples of how changes have been effected through years of campaigning by certain social and political groups. It may take a generation or two to bring about the change but rest assured, change will occur unless we understand that there is an agenda and systematic plan to bring about changes and that the gradual erosion of our rights and liberties are a part of that plan.

While this scriptural quote has nothing to do with gun control, it is appropo:

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...Hos. 4:6

Yeah that sounds like Lazy Mazie alright.

So here we have a well developed society and rule of law, therefore we get to keep our second amendment. But say something happens, then what? All they need is a big disaster or home-grown terrorist attack and it all goes out the window I'm sure. She's got her nose so far up the military's butt that when it comes time for the National Guard to start knocking on doors to collect our collections that they will pick her as the one to explain how it's for our own good.
I’m becoming clinically undepressed and thinking about beginning it all.

Sounds like the problem is with civilizing uncivilized people; not gun control.  I've always thought that when a society is given dangerous technology without having gone through the pain of developing it, they lack the discipline to use it responsibly and because of this, abuse the power that it provides. Throw a handful of AK47s to a group of people in a third world country and watch them ethnically cleans each other.  Give them a nuclear weapon and watch them purge whole nations.  Uncivilized nations will continue to act uncivilized with or without gun control and kill using machettes, knives, sticks and stones if no guns are available. Guns don't brutalize people. People do.

Or they might stand and resist the mega corporations who are poisoning their water, razing their homes, raping their women, and forcing their children into slavery.
