Hilo HPD  firearms section was closed on Friday. Now its by appointment only.  Today at a LGS, a customer said he tried calling but they won't pick up.

 

Took 84 tries to get through, but was finally able to make an appt for permit and also the follow up appt for registration. I'm just glad they're still open.

84 time I would just wait till they call you because you didn’t register then I would tell them you don’t pickup the phone! Honolulu finest not the smartest but the finest!

I hope I’m really wrong but from getting my rig registered through the appointment I made last week for today - the process was smooth and fast! 

Hpd also seems to be ontime - don’t be late and miss your time!!

I called probably 50 times off and on yesterday from when they opened till just about 11. Just gotta keep calling. I got through just before the 50th time. Had my appointment today and everything was quick and easy. Hardest thing was the calling for the appointment.
Front doors are closed and locked. Officer or worker will come to open the door to check if you have an appointment etc. I got there 15min early had 1 other person in there.
Cause of the virus and how small that registration room is only 2 people allowed at a time.

Was talking to couple of the officers there. The virus and social distancing been helping them little bit with a slowdown and limit of how much they can accommodateat a time. Hpd been getting hit hard lately with an influx of buyers and especially 1st time buyer panic buying.
So just got to be patient for all of us both sides.

So:

The virus is helping HPD with smaller lines/fewer people arriving at once to get permits/register.

Also, the virus did not help HPD as it caused more people to want to buy guns.

At a minimum, stop requiring permits for current firearm owners.

No need to worry about background checks for existing owners.  RAPBACK takes care of that.

If Big Island PD halted permits & reg, I suggest compiling details & filing a complaint with the Firearms Policy Coalition. They're tracking rights violations in regards to 2A & Covid. https://www.firearmspolicy.org/hotline-covid19

BI PD's cancelled their closure recently, they will be open again for permits and registration.  They will go to an appointment system at the beginning of April.

At a minimum, stop requiring permits for current firearm owners.

No need to worry about background checks for existing owners.  RAPBACK takes care of that.

it's possible but there's more to it.  Agreements have to be made with the ATF due to the brady background checks.  Then stores would need to apply and learn about the NICS instant background checks.  It could be done, not sure how long it would take.  Person to person transfers wouldn't need that, but I don't think the Governor would go for that.

So honor system is out the window then?

Wonder if the people who applied for and waiting for their PTAs will have to start all over again once the firearms section opens. That is BS if they do.

Tried calling MPD and have still yet to get through to someone to even schedule an appointment.

i called HPD this morning and I was able to schedule an appointment for next week.

now that my LG permit will be renewed, what pews should i buy?  I NEED MORE PEWS!
