Yessir!  I've been trying to call in to make an appointment for 4/3-4/9 and haven't been able to get through for about 5 days now.  Some members on here have been lucky enough to get through, but no dice for me...

Same. I can pick up my long gun permit today 3/25. But even if I do somehow get through to make an appointment, I am guessing it will be pass the date and they will trash my permit. I already made 100+ calls since last friday and still nothing.

Edit: Ok well after 5 more calls after I made this post they answered. They asked what I needed to pick up and asked my date I can pick it up. They said I can pick it up Friday.

Tomorrow is a state holiday so don't waste your time calling HPD, they're probably closed.

Seriously, it's Prince Kūhiō Day.

Quote
Prince Kūhiō Day is an official holiday in the state of Hawaiʻi in the United States.[1]
It is celebrated annually on March 26, to mark the birth of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole —
heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, prince of the House of Kalākaua, and later
territorial delegate to the United States Congress.[2] It was established in 1949 by the
legislature of the Territory of Hawaii.[3]

As a delegate, Kuhio authored the first Hawaii Statehood bill in 1919.
He also won passage of the Hawaiian Homes Act, creating the Hawaiian Homes Commission
and setting aside 200,000 acres (810 km2) of land for Hawaiian homesteaders.

Prince Kūhiō Day is one of only two holidays in the United States dedicated to royalty, the
other being Hawaiʻi's King Kamehameha Day on June 11.[1]

    RACIST !  O0

   Wait a minute.
You mean Hawaiian Royalty was not only involved with the U.S. Government but was an acting member of it  10 years before it became a state?

Requires a trip to the post office to get the properly addressed and postage paid envelope -- which costs about $10 in postage and special services.

So, trip to HPD, or trip to Post Office.  Ultimately saves you no time, but costs you more $$.

If you notice, the US as a nation (including Hawaii) celebrates July 4th -- the day we declared our independence from a ruling monarchy.

The State of Hawaii, in contrast, celebrates and honors their monarchies.  Some even yearn for their return.

Freedom and self-governance versus subjugation.  I guess anyone can be taught to be comfortable with their form government no matter how oppressive it is.

Doesn't fit in a regular envelop mailed with a 49 cent stamp?

I thin it has to be certified mail.

I don't hear anyone on that side calling for "a few common sense gun permit mailing regulations".  :geekdanc:

Read the HPD website:

Quote
As an option, long-gun applicants may have their processed permits mailed to them.

Applicants need to provide a

self-addressed pre-paid envelope,
certified
restricted-delivery
return receipt required

(available at the U.S. Post Office) at time of application for permit.

Long-gun (rifles/shotguns) permits are valid for one (1) year from the date of issue.

Be advised that a handgun (pistols/revolvers) permit is valid for only ten (10) days from the date of issue.

Based on HPD's info, mailing permits to applicants is not an option for handgun permits, likely due to the short turn-around time available to complete the acquisition.

From a "tin foil perspective," the more applicants who fail to pick up handgun permits by the deadline, the more times HPD can make applicants start from square one again, thus delaying another handgun from being "on the street."  Anyone who has their permit mailed is not at risk of having the permit destroyed if they can't get to the station for a few days.

Ok so what happens if I purchase a gun in a private sale, have a valid, current permit but cannot get in touch with HPD to make an appointment or if I do get one but it exceeds the maximum time allowed to register??? ???
