my top 5 for a beginner Corona edition is:
5.  PCC - light recoil easy follow up shots
4.  polymer pistol - you choose the caliber, probably 9mm best for a beginner
3.  revolver - for a beginner 38 or 357 at most, easy to learn to shoot
2.  AK - next best thing to an AR
1.  AR

I really don't think a shotgun is a great 1st gun for a beginner, and any of the above would serve you better for personal/home defense IMO

I wouldn't recommend a gun for a panic buyer.
If they weren't serious before, it's too late for them.
I'll givem a free bamboo stick for self defense.

Once this mess settles and there is another big gun confiscation push, some of these new gun owners will be the ones taking a sawsall to their ar's and injecting their opinions (as gun owners) on why nobody should own a weapon of war.

"I had my hands on an AR and couldn't believe the power I had to do so much damage.  We need to ban AWB's and their high capacity clips.  And for all other rifles, we need a safety class. I couldn't believe that I was not able to buy a handgun, but could buy a weapon of war without a safety class."

I know some guys who always wanted a gun, but never got around to it.  This was the push they needed.  Plus they have time now because no work.

Most guys on this site are pretty comfortable
with a large range of guns and calibers.
From the Video I only have the Mossberg 12 Ga.
in common. Cheap is why I bought it.
Since I grew up with guns and most people I know
were properly trained in safe use of guns,
I'm not sure what I'd advise a first time adult gun owner,
aside from take a self defense course.  Use their pistols
on a range.
One gun I advise against is 454 Casull pistol,
hurts too much to shoot.
Not cheap either.
The other video rifles are personal tastes.
I like the M16/AR15, BUT
Consider availability of ammunition when the
government outlaws
ammo like Hawaii is doing now.
Lots of the world is 7.62X39 and 7.62X51
and they have factories
cranking it out. Can get it just about anywhere.
Those two calibers will take out most every two and four
legged( respectively) mammals on earth.
If you nailed me down to 5
this is not priority.
Ruger 10/22
Browning A5
M1911A1
SKS Type 56
Springfield M1A

Yeah, those prone to panic probably should not be getting armed.

I do believe new shooters will be well served with Glocks, for various reasons.  However, I've seen folks buying up pretty much everything.  Even the lesser known firearms or those with longer track records.  On other forums, I'm hearing folks buying up pretty much everything.  I just hope folks eventually get training with their new firearms.  That and gun control proponents don't return to their head in the sand (or dark holes) once this blows over.

Dat too.  Nah, just kidding. If a newbie wanted a home defense gun, I would recommend an AR9 or KelTec Sub2000 or a G17 for a handgun.
