I couldn't get through the checkout. wanted to get some just in case something happens and have to go to the hospital. Thats our biggest source of infection which is the worst place to have it. Staff infected due to don't being able to use ppe at work and now our old folks home hale makua has been hit also. Just wanted to share if others didn't know was available.

Mahalo Mauiboi9.

My ohana in Hana broke the news to me last week.  I can't imagine Maui Memorial not having reserve PPE on hand.  I knew at least two wards at the hospital was infected.  Do you know if they have it under control?

Aloha.

On a side note there are seamstresses here on oahu who are making cloth face masks with a zipper in the middle. Can stuff paper towels, napkin, or toilet paper.  Not saying its better than a n95, but will last longer than having a dozen n95 masks and using them everyday.

I still dont use my issued masks 😂

My mom been making cloth masks with pockets 12 hours a day for almost 4 weeks now.  She found a hack where she can break apart air filters to stuff masks.  Better rating than n95.  Nephew has been passing it out to his crew at queens.

My neighbor uses HEPA filter material she gets online from vacuum cleaner supply places.  Sews in a full layer and so far it's like new through a half dozen washes.

Be careful with hepa air filters, some contain fiberglass
You dont want to be inhaling fiberglass at close range
There are pm2.5 insert able filters you can use made specifically for cloth masks. They are same filter rating as n95
I have a few of these masks. Although filter rate is same, sealing off the air isn't as good as n95 bc it's not as tight
I also have some kn95, same as n95 just made in china

I  buy n95 masks from home depot for household work like sanding, grass cutting, grinding, etc.  Retail is box of 20 for $20. This box lasts me for years so I only have a few left. Of course they are sold out now. But that's the regular price.

If you're looking for local masks, look on CL
I got my cloth masks with pm2.5 insertable filters from a guy on CL
I ordered kn95 online, just gotta search to find a good price. So much gouging out there. I found some for less than $2 each, but sold out now
I work in health care and I'm not comfortable with the level of ppe we are provided, so I buy my own
At work I use n95 or kn95, outside work I use the cloth with the pm2.5 insert.
I probably seem a little paranoid about this to some people, but better to have and not need than to need and not have
Be safe everybody!  :shaka:

I have KN95 from a few suppliers and there are definite differences. Did some testing on them as well as masks that a friend bought at the Commissary. All passed the various performance tests that one can do, but one of my masks the fit was way worse than others. Yeah, not expecting the seal you get with fit test for N95, but one was so loose on my chin area that there was almost not direct contact. Then one of the masks from my buddy’s supply passed all, but then I tried to put it on to test, the ear loop came off super easy. Actually, 3 of the 4 loop connection points came off so easy that I don’t think it would’ve held on someone’s face.

Is the KN95 needed? For me and what exposure I expect, not really. That said, I wanted to have some on hand in addition to the cloth masks that I got when the face mask orders started coming down.

Shop towels (Blue and another brand) did pretty well in testing of DIY type masks for filtration. I thought that was pretty interesting.

Personally I think this is all Horseshit.
If you had read some of my comments you know I helped my Microbiologist
degreed dad on his senior project.  Typhus  mutations.
If you are sick wear a mask, if not don't waste something someone else can
use.
It is real simple, you get infected by ingesting the virus.
be it picking your nose or eating food sneezed on.
The world is filthy with viruses and other "Germs".
Always has been,  always will be.
an example
Both my wife and I had Chicken pox as kids, I have scars from it, she doesn't.
we are nearly the same age,  in our mid 60's.  We both still
are infected with that Virus,
She suffered from " Shingles",
I have not.  We had to keep her "quarantined"
as many adults today haven't had chicken pox
and it can be deadly for adults never infected.
I didn't have to worry, so other than me doing
more chores than usual
LIfe went unchanged.
This virus may well be like chicken pox.

The shutdown hasn't affected me, but it certainty
has destroyed about 1/3 of Hawaiian state citizens
income stream.
Once things work out all the Government critters will
figure out where their money comes from.
People out of work don't pay taxes, buy things, or seek
out services.
Hope you remember that when Democrats want to be elected
in November.
