Costco Line Today?
« on: May 03, 2020, 12:09:12 PM »
How is the line today?

Anybody go there?

I want to get dog food and maybe put gas but I don't need anything so badly that I have to wait in a line.

Yesterday I waited about 30 minutes at the Kapolei location.  This was about 1530 hours.

Good intel. Still sounds too busy for me.

FYI, I went to Longs drugs last night at 4am because I had just finished working on a project. It was wonderful.
But there were still a surprising number of folks shopping at 4am.

I went to Waipio Costco last Monday.  They had pallets configured in the parking lot next to the store to form a serpentine pattern for the line to form.  Only about 30 or so people ahead of me.  Took maybe 20 minutes to get inside.  Check out was much quicker.

They posted an employee at the end of the serpentine to stop the line after a few people entered.  Then, as people exited, they let more people in.  I guess they tried to keep the number of people inside the store at any given time roughly the same.

What surprised me was how few people were waiting to enter, and how the inside was not packed, yet the parking lot looked full.  Must be because they closed off a good part of the parking area to create their entrance and exit control points.

Unless you are buying things you want to select yourself, such as meats, veggies, fruits etc, I would order online from Sams Club.  When the order is ready they will bring out to you.

I went to Waipio to get my car serviced so I figured I'd try Costco next door.
It was about 1pm and the line to get in was wrapped around the building.
People were waiting in the hot sun.  >:(
You have to wonder if it's worth the hassle just to save a few bucks.
I suppose if you have a small business and you really need bulk supplies it might make sense.

My wife and I went this past Thursday, around 9am.  Kupuna hours.  The line was around the building.  There was someone at the end of the line checking ID's to make sure you are a certified Kupuna, lol!

I was so happy they had TP and paper towels that I farted in excitement.

At the meat section people were politely lining up at one end of the counter to buy hamburger.  I checked the other side of the meat counter and saw that there was no line.  So I went there and grabbed me a package of hamburger.

I chuckled silently to myself, thinking why are they lining up for hamburger on the other side when there is hamburger on this side.

When I got home I found out why.  Without realizing, I bought myself a package of ground pork.  I'm so retarded..... :(

But it was nice to get out for a change, to see other people at 6 ft. apart with masks, wondering if I know this person or not, lol!

Mapo Tofu and Ground Pork Stir Fry are great ideas!  I actually researched the internet for ground pork recipes since I have a ton of it, lol!  As with other Costco meat products, we break it up into smaller portions and freeze them.

I noticed there are many great recipes for ground pork and a lot of them suggest mixing the pork with ground beef.  Sigh.  I'm running out of ground beef which means I gotta go buy some, lol!  Next time I gotta remind myself to read the damn labels.

Lots of stir fry pork dishes, ma po tofu dishes, lumpia, gau gee, and whatever else I can think of in the future!  ;D

Meatball and Meatloaf experiments are quite fun. Once you get your favorite spices dialed in you will never long for anything else.

Mixing ground pork with ground beef to make hamburgers is a little secret to making juicy burgers on the grill. It increases the fat content.
.....
Yesterday, instead of going to Costco, I went to the nearby Wal Mart store.
It was about 8am. Not many people, no lines, shelves were stocked. Even had big chubs of hamburger pretty cheap.
It was great.
Later, I put gas at the station on dillingham  and kalihi street. I prefer the Ezero gas and the price was very reasonable.
Not many places have Ezero.

I ain't going back to Costco for a long time.

Costco’s website lets you order through instacart  now. My old lady has done our last two shopping trips that way. Just pick what you want on the web site and it gets delivered to your door at a time of your choosing. Free delivery over $75. Default tip is 5% but you can put in any amount you feel is appropriate.

Just tried Costco online shopping. They do a pretty hefty markup on all the items so watch out for that, around 20%. Also they often need a ton of substitutions because the inventory tracking does not play well with the online system. I ended up going back and forth with a shopper for an hour with text messages. Wish I could cancel it but I guess it is a lesson learned.
