I want to send a machine of mine for refurbishing but I know the shipping costs are ridiculous. Just wondering if anyone has had any work done from Dillon.

If disassembling a 550 I read that you will need an indexing pin to reassemble.

I’ve just heard wonderful things about old nasty presses being refurbished to brand new with totally new parts for $70. I got a used Dillon and I noticed a green discoloration on the press and some rust on some spots when I got home. Figured It would definitely Be worth the $70 to get new parts and a clean looking press. But I know shipping is outrageous for us

I hear ya on the shipping. Maybe a local Dillon dealer can help you out? The only one I know of is WGS near Sand Island. Another option is to sell it and get a new one. Dillon products resale average at least 75% of retail. The difference might be worth a new machine. WGS prices on Dillons are pretty competitive with Brian Enos considering the shipping costs.
I'm on a second Dillon 550. The first I bought used and although it was a bit discolored I did manage to sell in on Craigslist. Years later I bought a new 550b and was lucky enough for Nosler's Shooter Pro Shop online to cover shipping during a sales event.

"they" say that much of the time, Dillon just sends a new one rather than refurbishing...

Was the refurbish free? I know before Dillon used to do refurbishes for free but now they charge a fee and they don’t cover shipping back to Hawaii like they do the other states

The SDB is a consumer machine. Repair was free. I just paid for shipping out.
They paid for return.

I suspect that the commercial-type machines like a 1050 would cost  for a refurb.

BTW, what machine you have and what's wrong with it?

I have a 550. Nothing is mechanically wrong just some cosmetic things. The blue paint is turning a green color. And there’s some surface rust on the shaft. I can just do it myself. I just heard how they basically replace everything if you send it in for refurbishing but I called and they definitely do not do that anymore haha. I assume the green color is either oxidation or old grease and oil. Should I soak it in a solvent to clean it? I’ve heard that solvents are not to be used on powder coating  but the Dillon rep said they use a citrus solvent.

The discoloration is on the bottom of the press. That’s why I’m hoping it’s just old oil or grease and I can clean it off. I wonder if something like break cleaner can be used on the press to clean all the crud off. It’s weird that no one has figured out how Dillon gets those nasty old presses looking like new.

If you break it down, sans the powder throw, couldn't it fit in a large flat rate box?

2 totally diff. Types of cleaners.

Try a degreaser and scrub away. Preferably a nylon type of shop brush on powder coated stuff. For bare metal, Dremel with those soft/ almost fluffy attachments with flitz. Polishing wheel? Eh i forget the name.

If shipping is too much, maybe getting it powder coated locally might be the same price, or maybe cheaper..
