Does any one know the legal stand point about owning a bolt action pistol? Perfectly fine? tommybuilt made some "bolt action" pistols for people in cali etc. Guess the bolt has to be cycled manually. Is it legal here?

but is it still considered an assault pistol is its not semi automatic? In the past I've read where you can have an assault pistol if the mag is attached to the firearm and loaded when the upper and lower is split. Maui seems different. They won't accept any type.

OGC had a few of the Remington 700 pistols for sale before. 
Silhouette side of kokohead they regularly shoot bolt action pistols.

When I registered my BA pistol  a couple years ago there were no problems. It falls under the same criteria and procedure as any other handgun here in the PRH...

Look at the definition of assault pistol in HRS 134.  if you're concerned about "legal standing," just make sure yours doesn't qualify as an assault pistol under that defininition.

Bolt action is just one path to making an (illegal) assault pistol NOT an assault pistol.  Easiest methods are to disable the semi-automatic action (manual cycling/bolt action) or make the magazine nondetachable.

"Assault pistol" means a semiautomatic pistol that accepts a detachable magazine and has two or more of the following characteristics:

     (1)  An ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;

     (2)  A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward hand grip, or silencer;

     (3)  A shroud that is attached to or partially or completely encircles the barrel and permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the second hand without being burned;

     (4)  A manufactured weight of fifty ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded;

     (5)  A centerfire pistol with an overall length of twelve inches or more; or

     (6)  It is a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm;

but does not include a firearm with a barrel sixteen or more inches in length, an antique pistol as defined in this section, or a curio or relic as those terms are used in 18 United States Code section 921(a)(13) or 27 Code of Federal Regulations section 478.11.

Totally legal. I have been wanting to make a pump action one for a little while but its really more of a fun idea than anything I can spend money on right now.
