HIFICO Testimony needed JDC Hearing June 25th
« on: June 21, 2020, 03:01:58 PM »

Note:. You must resubmit testimony again even if you submitted prior to June.
https://hifico.org/jdc062520/

As reported in our earlier post, the Hawaii legislature is resuming their session with 3 gun control bills being heard by Senator Karl Rhoad's Judiciary committee on June 25th. This session is supposed to be focused on the COVID19 response whith most other bills were scrapped. However Rhoads continues to push the gun control agenda during this emergency.

These are the bills up for hearing:
HB1902 Magazine ban/Family Court Checks
HB2292 Electric guns
HB2744 Ghost gun ban/gun violence commission

We have our easy to use testimony forms ready for you to fill out here: https://hifico.org/jdc062520/ with the priority deadline of June 24th at 10am. We want hundreds of testimonies to stop these bills. Have your family members, coworkers, and friends submit testimony. Numbers count and this may be a close vote.

You also need to call members of the Judiciary committee and Senate President Kouchi to state your opposition to these bills and to get them to cancel the hearing so they can focus on COVID19. There is no reason for them to push for a magazine ban when the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals will release their decision in Duncan vs Becerra in the coming months. https://bearingarms.com/cam-e/2020/04/03/coronavirus-key-2a-case/?fbclid=IwAR2bQyjJ0ZPZ5KnowLtwpHK4IdyfXxpiY6Tjs402G9b4h4J8TlXriBwJ3rI

Update:

Mag bill postponed until 6/30. Rhodes needs more time to fine tune it because it's to broad of a bill.

Taser bill passed to next committee. Rhodes mentioned since SCOTUS ruled, HI has to not ban tasers anymore, but will regulate them

Ghost gun bill passed to next committee. Rhodes said "parts" are ok to own.  Favella was asking about spare parts and replacement parts.

Only Favella voted No on all 3 bills.

This year, Kevin McDonald is running against Karl Rhodes.  We need to get the word out to get votes for him and support.  Kevin came to the hearing where HPD brass and the chief showed up.  He sat on our side to show he supports the 2a.

The Senate Judiciary vote was put on hold until Tuesday to figure out a film industry exception for the mag ban.  80% chance we'll get grandfathering for the mags so buy em while you can.  There is still a small chance the bill may not pass.  Our hopes are with the 9th Circuit Court's Duncan vs Becerra to overturn our magazine bans.

So what the fuck does this mean?

(d)  This section shall not apply to the manufacture, transportation, possession, sale, or rental of blank-firing assault weapons and the weapon's respective attachments by persons authorized or permitted to acquire and possess these weapons or attachments for the purpose of rental for use solely as props for a motion picture, television, or digital video production or entertainment event.

Are the magazines used in the movie industry different? Will every actor that holds a firearm have to go through a background check now? A lot of them can't pass the BG due to felony convictions, DUI, etc.. I would bring this up in the meting as testimony as that is how this reads.

Rhoads is concerned about the term entertainment event, which would enable you to keep magazines for just about anything.  Have a prop gun with a real magazine for a kid's birthday party, football game, bachelor party, whatever.
