Good post!
I have said many times on many comments, in the military and after,
in the technical and engineering world, I spend a significant
part of my time training.
Your video guy says that same thing, cops need to be trained better
and then kept at the "Edge".
You need to constantly train, learn, and repeat.
I'd rather have fewer well trained,  better paid cops than twice as many
blithering idiots writing speeding tickets,  hammering on guys selling un-taxed
cigarettes, or passing bad $20 bills.

You could probably get away with a smaller department if it had better trained and supervised officers.

Start by not pissing away officer time on construction site ass sitting.

That isn't paid by the police department. The construction companies pay for those officers.

Time that could be spent training -- and being paid for by the people that already pay for that service.

If they have time for off-hours employment, maybe that time could be used to make their on-duty hours more effective.

That makes absolutely no sense.

They could forego making extra money off-duty to put in hours of training for free?
Or
Tax payers should pick up all the OT the off duty jobs paid them to do extracurricular training (at a higher rate because it’s OT)?

Definitely would have to increase funding.....by a lot.

I'm well aware how it works. Just because it's baked into the construction bid doesn't mean it isn't being paid by the taxpayer for zero benefit.

Did I ever say FOR FREE?

Nope.

Try reading the words I wrote:

"Time that could be spent training -- and being paid for by the people that already pay for that service."

It might start making more sense if you'd stop looking for opportunities to troll me.

Increased funding?  Why?  If a SMALLER FORCE can do the job of the existing force by being better trained, it pays for itself.

Exactly.

Who pays the Cops to sit at construction sites?  Tax payers who pay the construction companies to build the roads.

I find it sad these things have to be pointed out to people who ought to already understand.   >:(

It's cute that he tried to defend a taxpayer funded revenue perk for cops that could be accomplished by a orange cone.

Or a flashing sign with a radar device:  "Construction Zone Speed Limit is 45.  Your current speed is XX."

It's not like the Cops are even worrying about speeders when sleeping in their cars at work sites.

I wouldn't say they need more training.  Instead, tell them not to be a dick and tell the people to comply.

I must have missed the protests calling for Cops to not be dicks.

That would require increasing the budget somewhat significantly unless you shrink the force somewhat.

I guess you only read the posts you want to.

As I already posted, if the force is smaller, the additional training pays for itself.

There's always money if the Legislature sets priorities, such as stopping the funding sinkhole that is the Rail project.

I respond chronologically. But as you will note I clearly said "unless you shrink the force somewhat"

So, basically, you're parroting what I wrote while claiming to not read it first.

Gotcha!!    :geekdanc:
