So interesting things you notice when watching movies now with all that's going on.

1) The term "essential worker" was used many times through out the work scenes in the movie.  If you are not an essential worker, off to the death camps you go.  So non-essential are teachers, arts, musicians, etc...Essential workers are metal workers, laborers, machine repair, etc...

2) There was a quick scene where the Jews had to tear down their own statue/tombstones.  Have we seen this recently?

3) What the movie makes no mention of is firearms confiscation that happened prior to. 

4) They were not allowed to practice their religion, they had to do it in secret.  Where have we found this happening recently? NYC has actually banned Jews from practicing per Cuomo's direct orders.  They didn't listen.

5) Laws were passed that made helping Jews illegal among other things to do with non-Jew interaction with Jews.  "We're just following orders/laws".  Jews had a duty to inform a non-Jew that they were a Jew.  Just because something is law, doesn't make it morally right. We've seen proclamations being passed all for the greater good that violate our rights.  Getting rid of Jews in Germany was also for the greater good of the nation.

6) The entire country was taken by the Nazi propaganda.  Everyone from the poor Germans to the educated/rich Germans all took part in what was being done to the Jews.  Germany wasn't a 3rd world country or it's citizens were not threatened by force to treat the Jews in this manner.   Where have we seen the media/government controlling the minds of people to force certain actions?

7) The Germans walked around with impunity from doing bad stuff to Jews.  What other group of people can do the same today?  Block freeways and not get in trouble, assault/agitate first respondors and not get into trouble, but get commercials made for them. Assault people who do not agree with them and get little to no penalties.  Allowed to gather, while other groups are not allowed to gather.  The list goes on.

People often mistake history repeating itself as the exact same circumstances.  So with that said, those who wish to do what the Nazi's were doing do not have to be white or KKK type groups.  It could be another race/groups of people who are mimicing the Nazi's actions.

All good points, but we have to put all of these points in the context of wartime versus peacetime.

What's "essential" during a war effort differs from other times -- a time in which resources are not only scarce but subject to being disrupted by the enemy, every resource, including labor, must be focused on the highest priorities.

As for Jews, they have been scorned throughout history.  The Merchant of Venice was first performed in 1605.  The Jews kept as slaves in Egypt were freed about 13th or 14th century BC.

Throughout contemporary history, Jewish families have excelled as doctors, lawyers, bankers, jewelers, and almost any other industry that involves big money -- including Hollywood.  The Jewish community has been tight-knit, and they tended to associate among themselves -- which resulted in Jews only hiring Jews or doing business with Jews. 

Germany used the Jews as scapegoats for all the nation's problems.  It's far easier for a gov't to become tyrannical when the people are too busy blaming a certain faction for the gov'ts failures.  Right now in the US, the White Man has become the culprit, and in particular rich White men.  Or a political party.  Or a religious group.  Or an ideological wing.  As long as the attention can be shifted FROM gov't and TO "anybody else", the formula works.

Nothing really changes.  Same old tactics -- different scapegoats.

I have Jewish family and Mormon family. I grew up thinking being Jewish was being religious. And conversely, if one was born to Jewish parents but wasn’t religious then they were not a Jew. It was only up until recently that it dawned on me that being Jewish is a race. Judaism is the religion. That means some of my Mormon family is really 25%-100% Jew. Conversion and/or acceptance of the Mormon religion into ones life doesn’t change your race. I’m kinda dense sometimes and it took me most of my life to realize this.

My father (Jewish) used to hint to me as a kid that our family had a skeleton in our family closet. I never knew what he meant until he finally told me. Apparently, we had a family member (I think he said a great grandfather but my memory is a little fuzzy) that was also in the Russian Army. He apparently was a Cossack and was ordered to kill some Jews. I don’t know if they were family members or not? But up until just a year or two before he died, my father was quite embarrassed by this and waited to tell me.
