police misconduct bill

Looks like HB 285 passed and is finally heading to the Governor after years of trying to reverse a horrible decision that has put the lives and property of countless residents in danger. Not happy with BLM and their Marxist revolution but in this case I really appreciate the extra momentum.

On the other hand how are 100 SHOPO members allowed into the rotunda while the place is supposed to be locked down? So much for social distancing?

Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

I can't believe we have a Police Commission that doesn't already have these problems addressed.

Just another layer of bureaucratic corruption and tax-funded jobs (with hefty retirement benefits).

I once testified before the police commission of Hawaii County.
They were mostly Mainland East cost liberals, no locals. They identified themselves.
They were very polite.  They asked me for my documentation which I submitted,
They really get some nut cases testifying.
I had accused the police chief of being in violation of
USC 18 title 242  Deprivation of rights under color of law.
For not allowing any concealed carry permits for Common "people".
They thought it was a joke.
I did not and still do not not think 911 will save my butt
when I have to deal with a major problem.
You'll never read about it, but it will get solved.
Cops are 20 minutes away.

Their administrative staff is paid civil servants, but the commissioners themselves are volunteers with no compensation.

Also, they couldn’t address this problem as we had a law in place that created the problem.

Not defending the police commission, just stating facts.

This new law is good for the public and long overdue.

Based on the brochure you linked to, the HPC has the authority to address these issues regardless of there being any specific laws in effect.
Quote
The Commission shall appoint and may remove the
Chief of Police; shall adopt rules as it may consider
necessary for the conduct of its business; review
rules and regulations for the administration of the
Honolulu Police Department; review the annual
budget prepared by the Chief of Police and may
make recommendations thereon to the Mayor;
submit an annual report to the Mayor and the City
Council; receive, consider and investigate charges
brought by the public against the conduct of the
Department or any of its members and submit its
findings to the Chief of Police.

Can they change the law?

Regardless of any specific law in effect?
Are you serious?
You think they have that much power?

Nothing you quoted says they can circumvent the law.
Where does it say make public?
Which is what the new law and old law are all about.

What happened to
Just another layer of bureaucratic corruption and tax-funded jobs (with hefty retirement benefits).

You just want to scream at the sky, Snowflake.

Was that law needed for the Kealoha investigation to become public?  There are ways to make it happen in spite of current laws, such as involving federal jurisdiction.

I'd bet many violations by Cops could be within federal jurisdiction since many involve civil rights violations.

Man of many User names.
It’s obvious who the little boy is. (Not me just to be clear.)
Always with the insults.
Why do you feel the need to lash out ?
(Not triggered, just asking as maybe you need some self introspection or possibly help.)
People do love your Google fu though and I tip my hat to that.

What was the police commission gonna do to start a federal investigation?
Did Puana complain to the Police Commission and present evidence?
(Maybe he did, I don’t know )

There. I answered your comments.
Now man up and answer my questions.
Directly.

You never did answer why you needed 4 user names on this forum.

 :stopjack:
2 commissioners resigned due to lack of influence (I think)
A bunch of commissioners supported the new bill.
The new bill is good for the public.
Hope the Governor signs it.
