Do you need a receipt from a local FFL in order to get a permit to acquire, or can you use the receipt/confirmation notification from the gunbroker seller?

I can get the make and serial from the auctioner, easily, but i don't think i can get the firearm to a local FFL before the appointment.

If you're buying from GunBroker (or any out of state seller), you need to wait until the FFL receives the gun.  Your FFL needs to send paperwork to HPD.   Technically, ownership is being transferred from your FFL to you.  They will be listed as the seller/transferor on your permit application.

Until your FFL takes possession, they won't be able to provide HPD the right paperwork, nor verify for you the serial number and specs match what the seller provided to you..

Alright. Thank you for the clarification.

I just got an appointment for...tomorrow.  I haven't purchased any pistols yet so I don't have the serial number. Is there a way to not have a serial or do I need to find pistols now today in stock for tomorrows appointment?

Nope, buy something or cancel it.

The permit application requires a serial number and description of the firearm if it's a pistol.  Long gun permits are good for a year and for as many rifle and shotguns as you wish to buy/afford.  Pistol permits are only good for specifically listed pistols on the application.

If you are buying from a private seller, you can get the info and take that to HPD without any money changing hands.  It's a good idea to verify the information you have is correct at the same time you meet to inspect the gun.

If buying from a retailer/FFL, you must first pay for the firearm.  They are going to set your gun aside so that pistol and no other will be delivered to you when you bring in the permit.  When you pay for the gun, the retailer will print you a receipt with the information that goes on the permit application.

So, unless you find a specific handgun to buy between now and your appointment, you won't be able to complete the permit application.

Maybe you could keep the appointment to do a "COVID-19 Mask Audit" at the police station?

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of trading with a friend who has a later date so I can figure shit out.  Also skeptical of joining rap back. The more I read into it the worse it looks.  The FBI and the state get to have my picture and biometrics for life in an unregulated system they can do anything they want with..... that sounds beyond sketch.  But is that worth giving up my 2nd ammendment rights for my 14th ammendment.  Ideally repback will be canceled when they find it unconstitutional.  But that might be a long time from now.

Permit to Acquire:
Made appointment on 07/16 for 10/14
Got email reminder last week
10/11  appointment reminder text
10/13  appointment reminder email
10/14  9am appointment reminder email

You need to go to the Registration side to have your temperature checked.  They confirm that you have an appointment listed on their printout.  Take your temperature and write it on a form that you fill out and return, they then sign off on the form.  You then take the form with you, with your other forms and to the Permit to Acquire side.  When you get to the window, they ask you if you have an appointment and check their printout.

Funny, I had an 11am appointment, but there were three others already in there (sign say only 2 allowed).  At 11:10 when one completed and left, they signaled to me to enter and go to the window.  I presented my forms, sign them and filled out the application at the window.  While I was completing my form, another person entered and said he had a 11:20 appointment.  Guess the 11:10 was a no show, unless they took him before I got there before 11.

Does anyone know what the appointment "EXTENDED HOURS" are?
I tried at 5pm today and the 10/22 5pm appointment was available, but like the deer in the bush, got a glimpse and then it was gone before I could enter anything.

Hey Eric, I just snagged a registration appointment for 6:20 p.m.  I don't know how late they're staying to, but I think it's good they're finally trying to accommodate the demand.

Thank JC.  It looks like it stops at 6:50, but I was not able to confirm, since at 6:50, system returns unavailable.  Tried at 7:00  and 7:10, unavailable.
"EXTENDED HOURS" are probably 4-6pm.

I was able to get two appointments in the "EXTENDED HOURS" for Oct 22:
Permit to acquire @ 5:40
Registration @ 4:10
Message me and we can arrange a time for me to cancel and you apply for the appointment.
I would suggest off hours, before 8am and after the "EXTENDED HOURS" 7pm or Sunday.

I will be cancelling on Sunday or early Monday morning.

Cancelled both at 10:16, forgot to do this post, and just checked and they are gone.  Someone is watching.
