Here's the exact text on the website:

http://khsc.info/index.php/prohibited/

Again, if you ACQUIRE a firearm from an FFL, you OWN IT, even if you haven't taken possession.  You already paid the FFL for the gun before you applied for the handgun permit.  Long guns are different if you already have the permit, of course.  You have 5 days AFTER you take possession to register.  Given the state of the registration process now, you would be guilty of violating this firearm statute for the MONTHS it might take you to register after taking possession PLUS the time between paying for the gun and applying for a permit PLUS the 2 weeks you waited for the permit PLUS the time it took you to go get the gun with your permit ... all of it regardless of whether or not you take it to the range.

Just sayin (again).   :geekdanc:

Oh, Stewardess.  I speak  jive  sarcasm.   >:D

These issues bother me when it's 100% obvious the laws are ambiguous and inconsistent, but someone tried to "educate us" on what the law "says".

After all this time in Hawaii, I really ought to let it go, but my fear is that someone else not as familiar with the issues will just opt out of owning guns rather than risk setting off one of the statute's trip wires.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
