HURRICANE DOUGLAS IS COMING, R U READY?
« on: July 22, 2020, 04:55:12 PM »
I have two generators, a loud 4500 watt and the quiet Honda EU3000.  Got 15 gal of gas for it, five 20 lb propane tanks full, vehicles all full, at least 30 days of food and plenty of water.  Also got a good supply of building materials to make waterproof emergency shelter if needed.  Tomorrow I am going to buy extra food for the chickens and dogs.  Other than that, pretty much set. I made a couple of generator wall outlets so I can run power inside the house without having to leave a window or door jar for the cord.  My biggest concern is my new vegetable garden getting destroyed.

Very impressed with your preparations.  Me, the usual.  Kinda unprepared.  We could use more canned goods.

But yeah, I'm worried about my new garden also.  I started it out of boredom with this virus crap.  But on the positive side, because I have poor soil, 99% of the garden is in containers.

I plan to store all my plants in my enclosed garage.  Only my squash plant and my bush beans will have to weather the storm if it comes.  The rest can be moved.

I told my wife she has to leave her car outside so I can have room for my plants.  She gave me the evil eye. ;D

Condo life here. So no plants or generator allowed.  Got lots of water and will fill pots and pans if it gets closer.  Got food from Corona, canned, MRE, and feeze dried.  Got a portable gas stove that I can walk down to an open area to boil water for the freeze dried food.  But it's a long flight down.  Windows don't open enough to have a good ventilation for the stove.

No problem.  If it gets that bad that you need to use a camp stove, you won't have windows to worry about.   :geekdanc:

Why do you have to go outside to run a gas stove to boil water?   ???

Stuff like frying in oil and stuff with lots of smoke, I can see.  Do you not cook regularly in your condo?

The only "prep" I will need to do is fill a couple of water bladders ahead of heavy weather.

I've seen people who were such bad cooks they burned water.

My ex thought the smoke detector in the kitchen was a cooking timer.   :shake:

Always ready.  Extra ready this year with our Tesla Powerwall setup.

Nice.  How many watts of power do you get out of it, in other words what size generator would be the equivalent?

I completed the last remaining thing I had to do, which was put away all the empty pots and other items that could get blown away.  I also have a stack of  forty used but still very serviceable 12 ft x 39 inch corrugated metal roof panels that I weighted down with about 500 lbs of CMU blocks.  Hope that is enough.

Uh, you can always open a window. If you’re really worried, run a fan to help with air flow. You don’t need the windows open for a full jet stream...

11PM update from the NWS shows track shifted N and where I live on the BI is now outside of the cone of uncertainty.  Current track shows eye running directly over Oahu and Maui.  Still over a thousand miles away so let's hope it tracks further N and misses the entire state.  S of the eye is the weaker side of the storm.

Same here
I have about six months of food
on hand, virtually unlimited gravity fed water,
Cesspools for sewage,
Plywood for some of the windows,
about two weeks of generator run time,
with fuel on hand, and 10.6 kW worth of
solar panels I can rig up
quickly if I had to.
My internet and TV are satellite.
I do have a telephone land line, but hardly ever
use it. In other words I'm prepped for SHTF
to the tune of many, many thousands of dollars.
which means I won't get hit.

The "Fates" do that just to piss me off for spending
all that money seemingly for nothing.

But that is what you need to do to live on the BI.
prepare, prepare, and prepare.
