Better mail NOW if you are going to vote at all! NOW NOW NOW! Make sure you don't miss the time when your mail person picks up.

I also noticed Civil Beat making the same point, which would lead me to believe that it is probably best to wait until the last minute and then use one of the official drop off boxes. More time = more opportunity for dirty tricks. This goes double if you live in a hotly contested district.

Yep.

There are many voters who use absentee ballots and mail them in as soon as they get them.

Then, a week or so before the election, something comes out about their candidate that makes them wish they could change their vote.

Another point against mail-in voting.

If we go to an all-mail-in system for all elections, then the states have effectively told the candidates to spend their campaign time and money earlier and to not bother campaigning within 3-5 days of the election.  Any ads that run after a ballot could be mailed in time to be counted would be wasted.  In effect, the election would be held 3 days before the official polling dates. We just wouldn't have the results as quicklly.

I'm of the mindset that, if you haven't made up your mind who to vote for before election day, chances are good your vote won't be well-informed or rational.  My mom used to wait to see who the polls said were ahead and voted for those candidates.  Her rationale was, "The majority knows more about who to vote for than I do."  She probably just wanted to feel good about having voted for the winner.  Just one more reason for everyone to ignore the polls, especially when we know most polls nowadays are so biased and skewed.

Polls are not designed to measure public opinion.  Polls are designed to shape public opinion.

Who counts the votes?
Government employees.
Get IT?
Other than prop 13 in CA years ago, I don't think any vote
I've cast since then was counted, as I have lived in "blue" states
since then.
However, I always vote so I have the right to bitch.

I saw a news story about a test of mail in votes.
The fail rate was something like 20 %.

Here is another report...

CBS conducted their own experiment.  And you know what's glaringly obvious?  Nowhere in this article is Trump's name mentioned!  But, all the articles trying to push the narrative that "there is no evidence of systemic voter fraud" never fail to mention Trump.

It's not as much about fraud as it is systemic breakdowns in the election process.  After these weaknesses are allowed to exist, massive fraud will inevitably follow.

Vote-by-mail experiment reveals potential problems within
postal voting system ahead of November election

Quote
...
Out of the initial batch mailed a week earlier, 97 out of 100 votes had arrived. Three simulated
persons, or 3% of voters, were effectively disenfranchised
by mail by giving their ballots a week
to arrive. In a close election, 3% could be pivotal.

Four days after mailing the second batch of mock ballots, 21% of the votes hadn't arrived.

According to Postal Service recommendations, "voters should mail their return ballots at least
one week prior to the due date."

However, nearly half of all states still allow voters to request ballots less than a week before the
election.

Tammy Patrick said many states' mail-in voting policies simply do not take the postal system into
account.

"So states like Ohio, you can request your ballot on Saturday up until noon for Tuesday's election,"
Patrick explained. "And that is the worst possible thing… you are setting up the voters with false
expectations, and you're setting them up to fail."

NPR reported a "case study" of how various groups would react in the event they received notice of voting irregularities, including voter fraud.  I don't remember all the details from the report on the radio, but sounded like they got people to get together and run sort of a simulation on various "what if" scenarios WRT voting.  No mention on how the people were gathered to participate, or how they got the info on their leanings.  But they presented the "study" on how liberals, conservatives, and independents would react.   ::)

They need a study for that?

Biggest  problem with this type of "study" is you get the hypothetical feelings of people who for the most part will never act on those feelings.  it's the crazy, Looney Tune extremists and White Privilege guilt-ridden college lemmings who will act if their "side" loses.

Hard to isolate the ones who will act out their anger and frustration while excluding the ones who will only cry, scream and say naughty things on the Internet.
