Picatinny rail protector?
« on: August 12, 2020, 06:44:46 PM »
Anyone make a small piece of steel that can be put in the slot so my cheap red dot with just a round cross bolt and no recoil lug does not mess up my pic rail?

My dremel skills are like all my other skills - it sucks

I’m hoping it will disperse the force over a slightly larger area so the rounded bolt does not peen my rail.

Have you tried ladder type rail covers from companies like Ergo? Buy a set and cut off a piece with some scissors.

Best to draw it up and have a machine shop make a few.   You are looking for a filler to take up the space in the P slot normally used by the mount.

Alternative might be some a small piece of really thin brass shim stock forced into the slot and excess trimmed off.

Mango - thanks for the suggestion but I’m looking for a piece  of steel to put in back of the “curb” so that mounts with only rounded bolts and/or minuscule recoil lugs don’t damage the “curb”

Rob - thanks!!
