The "Old Guy" said goodbye
« on: August 21, 2020, 11:49:32 PM »
A few of the older shooters here will remember forum member "Old Guy".
He was one of the original LIFE firearms instructors.
His wife would write articles for the HRA newsletter.

We became friends about 40 years ago when he shot combat pistol with me at Schofield.
A few years ago he immigrated to Texas and enjoyed living in a free country.
Anyway, he had health problems (not covid) and was on dialysis.

He sent a goodbye message to me indicating that he would be leaving shortly.
It is a sad day.
Here is a pic from about 40 years ago. He is on the right side in the yellow shirt.

What, Me Worry?

It's really hard knowing a friend you've known for many years has very little time left with us.

And at least he lived in a state where being free means something.

May he have a peaceful transition.

Goodbye to an old friend and one of ours.
Thank you for all you've done and the torch is passed on to us to do our share in keeping our freedoms.

Take care good friend and see you in heaven one day.

Howdy,
Boy is that an Old photo.

Sorry this Good Bye is a little late.

My kidneys  have failed and dialysis isn't  working.

I am in a home hospice program.

Several years ago, the Wife & I made the Decision  and left Hawaii for Hill Country Texas.

We have Never looked back nor regretted that decision.

Texas has lots of room for people who love ttheir 2a freedoms.

We would urge you to leave Hawaii  and see what real 2A freedom is like.

Sorry to hear about your health issues. My dad had dialysis in the later years of his life. Could see it was hard on the body and could tell that it affect people differently.

Happy to hear you enjoyed your move to Texas. Go easy sir.

I remember your pride in owning a 41 mag. Every 41 mag./ mod.57 owner I met felt the same.

Aloha Old Guy.

Old Guy,

I am sorry to hear about all of this. I only wish you the best and all the Aloha in the world.

What you said about leaving Hawaii and living in a free state is true. And I’m glad you have been living free for a long as you have.

Take care my friend.

I just got word that old guy has gone to that big shootin range in the sky.
I'm not terribly upset because I was corresponding with him ever since he immigrated.
He had multiple close calls and he said he was getting tired of fighting.
We should all display such grace and dignity in hard times.

Yeah. I’ve heard of many who need dialysis that one day are like “nope, I had enough”. Having supported my dad when he needed dialysis, it can be quite rough for the person, as well as the family supporting.

Rest easy OG

Thanks OF for keeping us informed. I’m sure he’ll be a lot happier where he’s going.

I heard he did some good things for the 2a community here.  I didn't know him myself.

We can donate a wreath or some flowers on behalf of the Hawaii 2A community at his funeral.

Better to wait for an obituary announcement to decide.  Many people prefer a donation to a cause in lieu of flowers.

I'd think a donation to the National Kidney Foundation in his name would be appropriate.

I'll go email his wife about an appropriate expression of sympathy.
