I did a pretty in-depth research
of the costs of re-locating and living
in South West Washington state,
on or close to the Columbia River.

Shop and do medical in Oregon
and live in income tax free WA state.
I even added in the cost of going to the dump.
It was a wash.  All things being equal
Hawaii has better weather and was the same cost.
Full disclosure;
I'm retired,  debt free, I lived in WA
state for over twenty years and have Family in Oregon,
so I took advantage of all the ins and outs only
locals would know.
If you don't have a mortgage you can live in Hawaii
just well as anywhere else money wise.

That said, the lack of many things like causing $$ shipping to get, no chance to comparison check.  Do not even have sporting goods stores.

The constant drumbeat of new democrat laws and regulations threatening to make a criminal of me.

Anti-self defense agenda and lack of decent places to shoot even with an enormous amount of land

All good hiking and such require trespassing due to island oligarchs owning everything.

Tools all rusting from VOG and humidity.

Mold allergies.
