Thank You President Trump!!! New Insulin CoPays in Effect for 2021
« on: September 19, 2020, 01:52:47 AM »
I had to post this. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you President Trump! Once again he did something great for the people and in particular us seniors.

I received the pamphlet from my wife’s Medicare Drug Plan Insurance Company. In it it explains what the new lower costs of insulin will be in 2021 due to the Executive Order  signed by President Trump forcing the drug companies and insurance companies to charge the seniors no more than what other countries pay for the same drugs. The copays for my wife’s insulin in 2020 was between $350 and $400 per month for the first 3 months then a little higher for the 4th to 5th months due to her being in the donut hole and then drops down to about half of that the remaining year. Her total drug copays total between $4,000-$4,500 per year most of which is for her insulin. This pamphlet goes on to state that all of her insulin copays are now $35/month per drug. So the cost of her insulin per month is now $70 per month or $840 per year!!!

Promise made, promise kept.

I just wish they would do more to reduce the actual price, not just hide the price in our taxes. Insulin is so old its out of patent and it costs a few dollars to produce a vial.

You didn't read the Executive Order, did you?

Quote
The orders signed Friday afternoon included allowing certain drugs to be imported from Canada and making
changes to the way discounts negotiated by middlemen called pharmacy benefit managers are passed on to
Medicare patients
.

The most radical order involves requiring Medicare to pay the same price for some drugs — the ones patients
receive in the hospital as part of Medicare Part B — that other countries pay.
However, Trump said he is giving
the pharmaceutical industry until Aug. 24 to make a deal with him before he implements it.

Nothing is being "hidden" now.  In fact, the exact opposite is true.  No longer are drug prices obscured.  What they pay is what patients pay, not some accounting aggregate of inflated ancillary costs bundled with drug prices.

We aren't subsidizing high prices for Medicare.  The costs of drugs are bring reduced.

Period.

I see, well in that case, great job! Hopefully we will see an improvement across the board, not just medicare.

Glad you just demonstrated that you have no problem posting your "informed" opinion, and then are able to retract it after your opinion is proven to be based on ignorance, lies and made up BS.

You should do some serious reflecting on how wrong you were on this issue, and perhaps question whether the "facts" you based other opinions were just as wrong.

Wow!  That's great news!  That's quite a positive impact!

How is she doing overall?  Hope she's recovering nicely, or at least as best as possible.

My sister has been on insulin since she was little.  Not sure what her co-pays are like as I believe she's been on private insurance all her life.  Still overall good news for millions of Americans.

Thanks for asking. She is doing better. She lost 70 pounds of water weight and has gained a little back but she is fighting it. They keep adjusting her drugs to keep the water off. We are planning on doing some traveling after lockdowns are over.

When I had my wife on private insurance her copays were $25 & $35. And she was on another drug that the copay was $65. But the nice thing with private insurance was we could get a 90 day supply with the one copay. And you could get prescriptions by mail and in some cases they waived the copay.  Medicare the copay is per month so it doesn’t help you to order 90 days ahead.

I am glad you are so easily amazed that someone will correct their statements when they get more information.

If you paid attention to my comment though, you will see never once did I mention medicare for starters. Furthermore I referenced the the low cost of insulin production vs the high cost people are charged for it. How about you be a little less short sighted and realize maybe I wasn't just talking about medicare but insulin prices as a whole. A drop in the price to medicare plan holders doesn't mean a drop for everyone. Don't get me wrong, if Trump brought around savings to both medicare members as well as the government (and therefore the taxpayers) than that is great but that doesn't solve the problem of insulin price for everyone not on medicare. But I guess you can't be bothered by those little details because then you wouldn't get to start flame wars on the internet. You would rather be dishonest and bicker, we all know that is your MO.

The lower prices are not going to be limited to Medicare beneficiaries.  That's just the standard they are using to start the process.  Once again, do some REAL research, and stop posting uninformed opinions.

Everyone will be benefiting from the lower prices.  Trump can only affect the programs under his control.  It'll take the PEOPLE forcing CONGRESS to adopt similar standards for everyone to benefit.

Trump can only do so much without Congress.

Your statement contradicts itself. You chide me for not reading the EO and say that the lower prices will go beyond medicare members to benefit everyone but then say Trump cannot affect the rest because the whole system is not under his control. You can't simultaneously claim the EO does that while saying the EO cannot do that.

I know you jump to Trump's defense at every chance like a good little boy but I am not attacking Trump here. I only stated that given the actual cost of making insulin and it being out of patent, that we should see much cheaper prices for the drug. It is one of the broken parts of our health care system. The EO affects medicare, great, my comment isn't limited to medicare though.

Agreed. They totally ignored it when President Trump signed the EO. I watch the news every day. I watch the business channels mostly. FBN was all over it. CNBC, crickets. MSNBC, crickets. CNN, bashed Trump for being a tyrant/ruler for signing another EO. Said it would increase the cost of insulin. And it would raise our taxes. The only thing worse than not mentioning something good is mentioning it but redirecting the significance and then lying about the reality of things.
