Anyone who attracts big money donors who funnel millions into PACs makes me suspicious.
As for unions, it boggles my mind that the SAME PERSON (mayor or governor) who gets tons of cash and a glowing endorsement for election then has the duty to negotiate "in good faith" on behalf of the city, county and/or state with THAT SAME UNION for government contracts and compensation.
How the HELL is this not a conflict of interest?
UNION LEADERS: "We endorse Blangiardi for Mayor of Honolulu. In addition, we are donating $1.9M for his election campaign, mostly to PACs to avoid campaign contribution limits."
MAYOR BLANGIARDI: "Thank you for your support, XXX UNION LEADERS AND MEMBERSHIP. Next week, we will sit down together and hopefully agree on a new and long overdue contract between the people of Honolulu and your Union. I'm sure we'll be able to come to terms that are satisfactory to both sides, even if I have to furlough workers in other areas to pay for your new wages and benefits. Those people paying for your contract should have donated more to my campaign. I guess they'll know better when I'm up for reelection!"
