CCI 34 Primers and no FF firing pin
« on: November 02, 2020, 09:02:31 PM »
I stumbled upon a few of these primers recently. Is there any reason not to use them like any other LR Magnum primer when shooting through a bolt gun without a free floating firing pin? I can't think of any.

Unless others have seen it happen, I have a tough time thinking my rifle's firing pin won't hit the primer hard enough to set it off.

This would be a new load developed from scratch, so the powder reduction to compensate for the magnum primer would be built in.

Thanks.

I've used them in a 308 bolt gun and didn't notice any difference from regular LR primers.

What is going on here?

I think we have several BOTs on here with accounts pretending to be out-of-state forum members.

They post identical comments/new threads on many different sites throughout the US.  Also, they always post in one category.  For us, it's the first one:  General Discussion.  BOTs are usually set up to post in a specific category because it's very difficult to match the subject with the correct category.  Hence, they use the first one on the forum, or the most general one to avoid getting into trouble with the mods.

Anyway, this is not the only one I suspect.

You are correct. There are several. But to what end? They have not posted links or SPAM of other types. Lull before the storm? Attack eminent? Okay, I’m going tinfoil hat here.  :tinfoil:

I just wonder what the end game is?

My guess:

At some point after the election, they will be used to either

a)  post misinformation and calls for an uprising, or

b)  draw others out to make those calls, and report them to law enforcement.

First, they have to post innocuous gun-related comments to appear legit.

It's time consuming to post on 1000 gun forums, but easy to set up BOTs and then post to the forums using "remote control".

That was my thought except I was thinking it will eventually post some links. Let the threads age a bit and then start posting links hoping the admins don’t catch it like they would a first post from a new user.

This is bizarre.

Actually, it's quite common in the world of forums.  That's why I always turned on the option for accounts to be approved by an admin before allowing access.  That way, if we spotted an obvious fake, we could disable it.

By disabling it, the person creating the BOT account would not be able to log in, but the account would still exist, meaning they could not go in and create the same account again.  That messes up their BOT architecture, as they often use the same name for several forums.  Making them create a new BOT name slows them down or stops them completely.

Oh, the world of spammers and trolls...
