Rest in Peace, Alex Trebek.

Trebek was ok.
I kind of lost interest in Jeopardy when he became the host.
When I was a small kid I used to watch Jeopardy with Art Fleming and Don Pardo.

Alex Trebek showed class, courage, and inspiration as to how a person deals with a horrible disease that has a dismal outcome.  He continued to work and live life as best as he could without an ounce of self pity.

May he Rest in Peace.

Yes, 2020 continues to sucks big time as we lose yet another wonderful human being.

Another reason 2020 sucks?  Looks like Biden will lead the country for the next 4 years.  And the possibility that Kamala might take over within that period makes it worse.

What really sucks locally is our state leaders won't open the unemployment offices for walk-ins.  That they won't even explore this possiblility, citing "health hazards for the public and their workers just shows how callous and uncaring our leaders can be.

We have a bunch of f*ckn assholes for leaders.
Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

I've made it to 3 Jeopardy  try outs but lost the third which was more on current events college style.  :'(
I met Trebeck who was cool as a cucumber and his wife,  a real blue eyed, red haired hottie.
I liked his response when he first came out with his cancer diagnosis.
" I cannot die from this as I still have 3 years on my contract." (paraphrased)

I can see how watching a TV show in color after so many years of B&W might turn you off.

Yep,
We did not have color TV until around 1970.
We went to my auntie's house to watch the Apollo Moon Landing with Walter Cronkite.
She had a color TV.

LED screens make a nice rainbow color when broken that way and put out in the sunlight.
You have to move them around a bit though.

I'm sure there's a pack of colored stickers ren could apply to a Kindle.

I have 2 Kindles.  One is so old, I can't use it to download books.  I can download the file to a PC and do a wired transfer, but why bother?  My second Kindle still downloads, but has other compatibility issues.

My first IBM-Compatible Home PC's dot matrix printer (Star SG-10) used a standard spool-to-spool typewriter ribbon.  It's one thing I liked -- no expensive ribbon cartridges that were always hard to find.

I "upgraded" the printer to color by getting a set of 3 different color ribbons!  In PrintMaster, I could click the "Align" button to print a faint dotted line where the top of page should be.

After several passes with different versions of the page while realigning each time, I had a nice sign or flyer in black, blue, red and/or green!

So many memories of early computing.  :geekdanc:

I never really thought about whether I liked the host of a gameshow unless the host was the center of action, like we see now with million dollar prizes.  The host for these new shows read all the questions, make jokes, editorialize, express emotions, .... It's just filler for the show apart from the game itself.

Jeopardy! was fun when I was in high school and beyond, because I could actually answer half the questions right before the contestant or host gave it.

It's one of the few remaining intellectual shows that cover an extremely broad range of topics to keep it interesting.

I know if I'd ever been on the show, every category would be about Shakespeare, Opera and 16th Century Art!

I can't see the show ever being canceled, but then I also have a hard time imagining the show without Alex.

Any suggestions or guesses as to the new host of Jeopardy!?

I would have never guessed Drew Carey for The Price is Right, and when I watched him, he didn't seem to belong IMO.

It would have to be someone who can read answers and questions (format of the show) non-stop for 30 minutes and not make many mistakes.  Plus, they need enough personality to be likable to the audience so they don't get sick of hearing his/her voice.

I know they are very busy, but someone like Wayne Brady or Steve Harvey would be good.   I enjoy hearing them speak, and they have great game show experience with Family Feud and Let's Make a Deal.  Both are also very funny, which would help when something funny happens and an off-the-cuff joke is needed.  Some people can't be funny without a script.

I remember putting that colored sheet of plastic over the TV screen.
Blue on top for sky, yellowish in the center for skin tone and green on the bottom for grass.

We were too broke to afford that kind of cutting edge technology.   :'(

If we wanted color TV, we had visit our relatives who had a color set.  The problem was they never wanted to watch what us kids wanted.

I knew exactly how Rainman felt outside on the porch while Judge Wapner was on!
