A plurality of people in Britain support giving the government powers to spy on people’s movements via cellphone tracking to enforce lockdown, according to a new poll.

The YouGov poll asked people in multiple different countries if they supported, “The Government in [country name] using the mobile phone data of individuals to ensure they are complying with restrictions on movement outside of the home during a lockdown.”

45 per cent of Brits supported the measure compared to 42 per cent who opposed it.

To put that into perspective, more people than not literally support handing the state the power to track people’s physical movements in real time by giving them access to GPS triangulation data.

I did actually read through the whole section and the law isn't real clear on these revisions/extensions/whatever we call them. It clearly says the proclamation ends at a certain point (90 days right?) but I didn't see any language concerning whether it can be amended to last longer or whether the governor can simply implement a new proclamation on the exact same thing. If there is no hard end then there is certainly room for such a system to be abused so I definitely understand the caution people have when looking at these ongoing proclamations.

So far the courts seem to have upheld the proclamations but I haven't read deep into their explanation. I do agree with you that the legislature just needs to pass laws instead of keep kicking this thing down the road month after month.

Are you referring to Hawaii's proclamations?  Because I don't think there's been a lawsuit concluded on Hawaii's proclamations.

A reasonable description of the situation would characterize the pandemic as ONE EMERGENCY  SITUATION.  Therefore, the governor can't "re-declare" the same emergency ad infinitum.  The 60 day rule applies to each emergency.  Any other reading of the law negates the law on its face.

Imagine if Trump declared war for 60 days, didn't get Congressional approval to continue the military actions of that war, but instead declared the original war declaration halted while declaring a "whole new war" against the same adversary.
