Aloha guys. 2 questions for you guys. My brother in law just moved here from California and is wanting to apply for a long gun permit to acquire. I have an appointment this afternoon under my name and am under the impression I can give it to him as long as I am present. I've read here that it is possible, and I've also seen it being done while waiting at the reg side. Second question is if he doesn't have a PCP/doctor here, can he put no doctor on the form, or is it better for him to list his PCP on the mainland? Thanks

I can only go by what's been posted, but I think you have the reservation exchange idea correct.  Both have to appear.

If it were me, I would tell the HPD officer what the doctor situation is.  They may not want the doctor's info if they know the doctor resides out of state.  If he has an HMO that also exists in Hawaii, they'll definitely want that info.  It's worth asking before he decides what to put on the paperwork.

The worst thing he can do is lie on the form.  Not worth the risk.

I agree with above. Pretty sure the guy at hpd told me both needs to appear.

I think its cause if someone is doing a private sale and the seller wants to be there in person. No one can make overlying appointments.

As for the doctor.  Just get 1 during the 2 week waiting period? I mean, if he is moving here, he gotta get 1 anyways. Perhaps? Sorry, i cannot really answer that one.

I applied and recieved three firearms permits within the last month without a doctor. On the medical form, just put "None". They will ask if you have a doc anyway, just tell em "no".

Edit: Sorry, misread that he had no doc at all. I would just put the mainland docs info.

Did the appointment swap thing last week. Both have to be present on the day of.

As far as the PCP, they said its up to him, which was too vague. He put his mainland PCP to be safe. Hope this helps.

I applied for my permit when i was 22-24 and put my pediatrician each time because i haven't formally switched over to an internist or PCP. They told me to stop putting my pediatrician when i applied last year at 25 LOL. So i put none / QMC since i work there (we have an employee health department that does checkups that's why). And they haven't had any issues with that.
