Proposed Biden Gun Tax Could Top $34 Billion

Excerpt:

Report: 20 million ARs, 150 million ammunition magazines would be taxed under Biden proposal

American gun owners could face tens of billions of dollars in new taxes to keep the guns they already own under Democrat Joe Biden's gun ban and tax plan.

At least 20 million rifles and 150 million ammunition magazines would be caught up in the sales ban and registration scheme Biden touted on the campaign trail, according to a National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) report. The new taxes would cost Americans more than $34 billion, according to a Washington Free Beacon analysis.

Biden wants to ban new sales of AR-15 rifles and similar firearms as well as any ammunition magazine holding more than 10 rounds—sizes that come standard on most modern rifles and handguns. He would pay some owners to surrender the affected guns they legally own and force everyone else to register the guns under the National Firearms Act. The proposal would require owners to pay a $200 tax stamp for each item.

I'll have to dig for the info, but I recall discussions with other gun enthusiasts and 2a advocates that there has been legal rulings (or at least challenges) against trying to restrict exercising of 2a rights by imposing taxes.  I recall the discussion was attempts to make ammunition prohibitively expensive, thereby limiting exercising 2a rights.  I haven't found specific case references (yet).

You beat to this one.  I saw it on Free republic this morning.
but didn't start a thread.  Most of the rest of the country would call us here,
idiots, but then we are used to tolerating the abuse of our constitutional rights.
The rest of the country  has no concept of how abusive Hawaii
laws are and what people here will tolerate just to get along.
I believe that if Bidet is sworn in this Tax will happen.
I also believe many people will comply,
many boating mishaps will occur, and a thriving
black market will be established.
How is your Spanish?
How is your Mandarin?
Mine are very rusty, but can be
resurrected quickly.
I think gun running is an honorable profession.

Odds of this happening are very remote.  It'll be overturned in court and they know they will lose the Presidency, house, and senate in 2024 if they go extreme.

This case is similar.  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murdock_v._Pennsylvania

There already is the Pittman Robertson 11% tax on all firearms and ammunition, but I guess it's justified as it funds firearms programs.

I'm not sure how $200 tax stamps were constitutional as it was a hefty sum, weeks or months of pay, when it was enacted.

This is fucked up and no way this passes court muster.  I would be out well over 20k in taxes.  Talk about undue burden.

I do NOT share your optimism in the court system.
Young will likely be dead before a court rules on his case.
Which he should win.
They won't go extreme, they already are extreme.

Exactly.  I believe they will def push.  Then there's the damage that will be done in the interim while things get ironed out.

Biden said he was going to do it and he definitely will put the wheels in action.  However I believe that he will not have an easy time going about it.  It will be fought every inch of the way tooth and nail.

It's going to be a rough ride ahead of us and we are at a crossroad.

Not every state has gun registration, not to mention few have any sort of magazine registration.

To apply the tax, they need to know who has what, but a national registry of firearms is forbidden by law.

Hawaii may collect the taxes, because they know who has an AR-15, but other states can't due to their lack of an unconstitutional registration system.

I can see this as a 14th Amendment argument for equal protection under the law.  Why can people in one state not pay (What AR-15?  What magazine?), but Hawaii residents are required to (I see here you have 3 AR-15s and 2 lower receivers)?

Let's not get derailed into a "scum rating" discussion... but... who's gonna beat out Hirono? As Tucker Carlson frequently points out "The dumbest person in the U.S. Senate...ever."

I don't think any kind of either fairness or rationality went into that law any more than it goes into any of the absurd "gun safety regulations" that currently exist and continue to be proposed.

Notice that no court EVER declared such an arbitrary and capricious "tax" illegal in any way, much less unconstitutional. Just sayin'... the black robes ARE "the system". Just watch as they let the massive "irregularities" in the recent election S L I D E...
