From Sundance at Conservative Treehouse... sounds like business as usual in D.C. swamp...

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/12/21/house-voting-today-on-5600-page-pork-filled-covid-package-no-one-has-read-mcconnell-wants-unanimous-consent/

House Voting Today on 5,600 Page Pork-Filled COVID Package No-One Has Read, McConnell Wants Unanimous Consent…

My rough review shows an approximately 70/30 split on the $900+ billion COVID package.  Approximately 30 percent +/- of the bill will actually help working class families and businesses on Main Street.  Approximately 70 percent of the bill will go to political donors, special interests, environmental lobbyists, K-Street groups who wrote the bill, foreign interests, Wall Street and corporate beneficiaries.

New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) received $4B in the March CARES Act.

This stimulus bill give the MTA ANOTHER $4B, with a new provision that that MTA not lay anybody off.

With everything in NYC on lockdown, you'd think the MTA would have less ridership to serve, and thus fewer positions needing filling and fewer trains to maintain and operate.

Glad our taxes can help them pay the bills there.  So glad Amazon didn't create a bunch of jobs there.  I doubt Amazon would have survived with the pandemic -- everyone ordering everything they need online.

What about our rail?  The City and Hart could use $4B right about now.

Our rail isn't operational, so there's no impact to commuters if the money dries up.

In NYC, MTA is vital to their residents and visitors since most don't drive in the city -- if ever.

The stimulus bill is suppose to serve the domestic needs, of its people, not to maintain the US empire's global hegemony or support its vassal states.    :wtf:

Looking at it as a group and not individually, the $600 payments will probably cost $200B.

I wonder if the RINOs in Congress would be more willing to shift the electors to Trump if he signs the Stimulus Package, less so if he vetoes it.

I could see him signing to keep from pissing-off the party members who may be the difference between winning or losing the contested election.

The Relief Bill was voted on with NO AMENDMENTS even offered.  This is possible when members vote 2 hours after the bill was provided for review.

Glad to see Trump send it back and told Congress give the American people $2000 and cut all the give aways to foreign countries.  We need help and our elected officials want to put us last in line.

Glad to see Trump send it back and told Congress give the American people $2000 and cut all the give aways to foreign countries.  We need help and our elected officials want to put us last in line.

Just learned something else I didn't know (2020 is a great year for unusual situations in government procedure and law!).

US Constitution -- Article I, Section 7, Clause 2 -- provides for a rarely used "Pocket Veto" for the President.

Ordinarily, the President has 10 days to sign a bill into law, or it becomes law without his signature.  He also has Veto Power, in which case he sends the bill back to Congress.  If that happens, Congress can override the veto with a 2/3 "super-majority" Congressional veto vote, which they seem to have already based on the House and Senate voting numbers initially.

However, if the Congress is not in session, the President has no need to actively veto the bill.  He just holds the bill "in his pocket", and the day the Congress adjourns, the bill goes *poof!* -- ceasing to exist.

The current Congress can only remain in session at the latest until Jan 3rd.  On Jan 4th, the new Congress will be sworn in.  if the bill is not presented to the President tomorrow, Dec 23rd, then there's not enough time for Congress to act before adjourning.  Given that the bill just passed this evening, and that the bill is so large, it's improbable the bill will be ready to present to the President before end of day tomorrow.

If the Dec 23rd "deadline" expires, McConnell's warning to Trump that the Congress has the votes to override a Presidential Veto is moot.

Checkmate!  Maybe Nancy shouldn't have dragged her heels for so long?!      :geekdanc:
