TBH Barry never pushed much gun control. The main thing that did pass was the gun free school zone, which was Biden's project. No bans on bump stocks, P80's, etc... all that have been around during his reign.
So that does give me a glimmer of hope that it won't be as bad as we think it will be. But I could be totally wrong, only time will tell.

He pushed gun control as a policy, but as with many of his agenda items, he was inept.
He made Social Security recipients who were using a third party to manage their finances automatically deemed mentally incompetent and therefore ineligible to own guns even without a mental fitness evaluation. Trump reversed that Executive Order.
Obama tried to ban green tip .223/5.56 ammo as "armor piercing", but the ATF "forgot" to allow for public input and had to roll that one back, too.
Obama signed an executive order making it illegal to import certain Russian-made firearms and receivers, namely those produced by the Kalashnikov Concern (formerly Izhmash) which were sold in the US as Saiga rifles and shotguns. Trump could have repealed that order, but with all the Russian sanctions going on, it would be unwise to give the Russians the ability to sell their weapons here and not other products we could use.
He attempted to reinstate the assault weapons ban (this time to include many more weapons than before -- Feinstein drafted the bill), "high capacity" magazine bans, and universal background checks. If it had not been for the timing of Sandy Hook, he might have gotten all of that passed. Sandy Hook was in Dec 2012. The Democrats maintained control of the Congress the first 2 years of Obama's first term: 2009-2011. If not for Republicans controlling the House in 2012, and then the Senate in 2014, Obama might have gotten much more of his gun control agenda passed into law.
Maybe one of the good things to come from ACA is the Dems were so hyper-focused on passing it that they ignored almost every other bill they could have also forced on us.
