If this was any other event (possibly with any other president elect), the event would be CANCELLED due to security concerns. Putting a bunch of weekend warriors on alert to contain thousands of civilians is asking for another Kent State result. It'll just take one nervous Guardsman to overreact, and all hell will break loose.
The inauguration does not need to be held publicly. In fact, there is normally a swearing in before the event that's the official swearing in. The inauguration on TV is just for show, to drive home the transition of the presidency in grand fashion.
If COVID is still such a concern, especially in these flu seasonal months, why spend the money on a public gathering plus even more trying to keep it peaceful?
Makes zero sense. Pelosi tried to cancel the State of the Union Speech, then gave in to public pressure -- then she insultingly ripped up her copy of the President's speech and gave him a sideways clap.
I say pull the plug on the inauguration and have the event on live stream -- "lockdown style."
