Not really,  don't like Trump.  Melania, I got no feelings either or.  She didn't really do much.  His children, have done some bad, but nothing close to trump.   His administration has done some good (immigration), some neutral (guns) and bad (many others).

But, you said:

Trump has ties with Isreal, ordered the attack on the general and pulled out of the agreement.   It's not like it was one thing that caused it.   Also if you ignored all of that it happened under his administration he is responsible.

So, if it's bad, Trump is responsible, but if it's good, he's not.

I never understood why people fawned over president's wives. Turning them into celebrities and worshiping them.

The First Lady actually has an important role.  She not only is an ambassador for the President, attending functions and greeting visitors, but she also manages a staff that sees to the day-to-day operations of the White House.

Each First Lady also picks an issue that is important to her, and she tries to increase awareness, raise funds, and hopefully help make progress in it.

People like to treat our high ranking politicians as celebrities.  In Trump's case, he was actually a celebrity his whole life, and his wives and kids have been to a similar degree themselves.

So, nobody "turned" Melania Trump into a celebrity when she became First Lady.  She already had that on her resume -- before AND after she married Trump.

Her position is just something for her to do. The first lady can use her fame to take up a good cause, to be a good host to guests, etc etc. It isn't a necessary position, a single man could be president just fine, but she is there so she can become useful.

However my criticism wasn't of Melania or of First Lady's in general, it was about the public's reaction. Her looks are irrelevant to the role she can play as first lady yet people swoon all over them saying how they were so pretty or glamourous etc etc. And it always seems to fall upon tribal lines. The democrats thing the democrat first lady is so pretty and the republicans think the republican fist lady is so pretty. Looks shouldn't be a factor in how we judge the first lady.

Those are skills at least, something someone worked for. Looking good isn't.

If you want to demean hero and celebrity worship in general, you need another thread.  This one is actually and specifically about Melania Trump.

We can rag on pro sports players, Hollywood actors and film makers, politicians, Olympic athletes, astronauts, TV Evangelists .... the list goes on and on.

But not here.     :stopjack:

There are times when people who are beautiful in heart and mind also are beautiful in physical shape and form.

Hey, it's not their fault and no harm or foul if they are.  I appreciate beauty in human beings, sometimes there is beauty inside but maybe outside not so much, or vice versa.

Beautiful things are meant to be appreciated.  And complimented.

And there's no need to understand why beautiful people are held in reverence or celebrity by other people.  It's their business if they want to do that.

But I understand why some people cannot understand that.  I can't understand it either but I do it all the time.
Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

No question, Melania is a beautiful woman. And her English improved over the years as FLOTUS.

Be Best!

Melania Trump is reportedly fluent in 5 languages.

Trump's children are bilingual or multilingual.  They learned Czech from Ivana and Slovenian from Melania.

Whether her pronunciation of English meets anyone's standard or not is subjective.  When learning to speak another language other than our native one, it's often the case that we do not pronounce words like those speaking it natively.

If we were to judge everyone by their accent, what does that say about all the Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian, and other immigrants who studied and are fluent in English but happen to "sound funny" when they speak English?

I'm willing to bet real money her spelling, grammar and vocabulary skills put certain forum members' English skills to shame.

Really?  Michelle Obama has been treated like royalty.  She's been voted "Most Admired Woman" year after year in polls and magazine selections.

Laura Bush was fawned over by the press even though she was the wife of a president they despised.

Quote
According to a series of Gallup polls dating back to 1969, former president
George W. Bush's wife, Laura Bush, has received the highest approval ratings
as first lady in recent U.S. history.
