In 1911, the year he turned 27, Truman wrote to his future wife, Bess: "I think one man is just as good as another so long as he's honest and decent and not a nigger or a Chinaman. Uncle Will says that the Lord made a white man from dust, a nigger from mud, then He threw up what was left and it came down a Chinaman."

"(Uncle Will) does hate Chinese and Japs," Truman continued. "So do I. It is race prejudice, I guess. But I am strongly of the opinion Negroes ought to be in Africa, yellow men in Asia and white men in Europe and America."

More than 25 years later, Truman, then a U.S. senator from Missouri, wrote a letter to his daughter describing waiters at The White House as "an army of coons." In a letter to his wife in 1939 he referred to "nigger picnic day."

Imagine, if you will, a democrat like Truman, or even JFK in the liberal/socialist party of today.

No one ever said either of them was not 110% American.

Wow.  Not quite sure what to say.

I wonder how many people are like that today, only thing is they're wise enough to keep their mouths shut and their thoughts to themselves........

I met a lady who lived in CA her whole life.  Very Liberal in her views, but almost every joke she told was racist to varying degrees.  One that she thought was hilarious was how, when doing laundry, she was told to never put the "coloreds and whites" together, because they never get along.   :wtf:  Seemed like she brought that one up quite often.  After a few years knowing her, I just stopped calling her.

Kind of made me wonder whether the Democrats ever really got over their racist roots with the Civil War, KKK, Jim Crow laws, opposing civil rights, opposing school desegregation, etc., etc.

Affirmative Action, another Democrat program, was based on racism -- the soft bigotry of low expectations.

They seem to see them as a collection of loyal pets now.   Always willing to do the master's wishes in turn for some scraps.

I question this line of reasoning usually when debating against someone on the left trying to cancel someone for something they said 20 years ago.

People can change for the better or for the worse. So if someone said or did something bad in their youth I try not to automatically use it as an argument against them. Hard to know peoples true heart of course but not everyone who was a racist at one point is a racist for life. Both parties had their flirtations with racism and racist groups. Democrats flirted with racism in the past and they are toying with a different type today but we shouldn't attach permanent labels.

I'll take a shot at that.

Yes, PEOPLE can change for the better.

We call those people "Former Democrats" and "Republicans."

Staying in a party that has historically fought against civil rights and racial equality doesn't make you a better person no matter your personal beliefs.

I'm sure the KKK had some fine, upstanding citizens in their ranks.  Sen Robert Byrd comes to mind.  That means you should resign your position as KKK Grand Wizard and switch parties.

Latinos?  My perception is they tend to be very individualistic, going so far as to make efforts to be somewhat flashy.

But then they seem to like gangs. . .

My guess is most blue collar working class citizens fall into those categories.

When I was a kid I asked my mom what's the difference between the donkey and the elephant.

She said the democrats cater to the working class and the republicans cater more towards business people and the more financially affluent.

I don't think that's true nowadays.  It seems the opposite but just in general terms.

Democrats PRETEND to cater to the working class while in reality they are the party of big corporations, big tech and multi-billionaires.

Republicans get characterized as racists, greedy big-money panderers, and against any Liberal policies on the environment and social "justice".  In reality, the things the Left propose are not solutions, but ways to gain more power and money.  They propose no viable solutions, but as long as their "intentions" are pure, results are irrelevant.

As Trump said, we trusted the Dems for 70 years to help raise up the Black community.  Nothing has been solved.  If fact, things began to get worse under Obama than I remember them being under Reagan.

As the union bosses come under what you list, seems accurate.   Lots of unions seem to be made up of low-info type members, who likely go along with what they are spoon-fed by the all powerful bosses.

Those bosses have been major players in the democrat party for many decades now.

The Republicans and Democrats of today are the two cheeks that serve the same ultrawealthy okole class.  The only difference today is that the Republicans do not hide the fact that they will ultimately serve the interests, of the wealthy; while the Democrats will lie to the faces of the poor and middle classes, while kowtowing to the whims, of the same power okole.

The recent Presidential election is indicative of this, where both political cheeks are now working together to erase Trump's attempts to restore the American Republic and return to business as usual, in the US empire.

“Show me a man that gets rich by being a politician, and I'll show you a crook.”

Someone might get killed doing it, but a Pulitzer Prize might go to someone that could research the net wealth of any or all politicians, before and after leaving government.
