I'm eying a few Swiss 96/11 rifles on GB. I've been considering a Swiss rifle for some time, and the 96/11's seem to still be available for a price that broke a** folks like me can afford. As I understand it, the 96/11 shoots the same GP11 ammo as the K31. Anyone here have any experience with these Swiss rifles? Is the ammo difficult to procure (surely not, given the current state of affairs) or produce

I have a k31 and my rifle is super accurate I've shot milk jugs at 500 with it with the gp11 ammo its a really good rifle finding ammo or gp11 is very hard especially being way out here in Hawaii your best bet to find that ammo is to buy it online and contact kaleo arms they will bring it to Hawaii for you for a really good price I bought a full crate of it when I was on the mainland and brought it back.

I have some experience with them. I own a couple and have done some research on them and have a couple of books. I don’t own a 96/11 I own an 1896 (Manufactured 1896) and a 1950ish K31. So basically the first and last of the line. The 1896 action is not as strong as the follow up model which is the 1896/1911. I reload for all my guns so I reduce the loading for my 1896. So you are correct that the 96/11 is capable of shooting the GP11 ammo as the bolt lugs were moved towards the front from the rear and I think there were some metallurgy changes as well. These are very fine rifles and extremely accurate as military rifles go. Right up there with the Swedish Mausers. They are also quite beautiful as the Swiss are well known for their metal finish and the stocks are usually of high quality wood and well finished. If you get a chance to own one and can see it before you buy it, get the pick of the litter. Some of the wood that comes with these rifles is quite stunning. My 1896 has the best wood I have ever seen on a military rifle. Even tho I refuse to own safe queens, my 1896 is as close to one that I own. I think the only issue you might have is obtaining some GP11 for it. As I recall while I lived in the islands the last year or so it was tough to find ammo. And when you did it was expensive. So make sure you can get ammo if you decide you want to shoot it before you buy one. Otherwise it might just be the finest looking safe queen you own.
