OPPOSE - HB534 Stand your Ground bill is up on Tuesday 2/2/21 at 9:45am.  Priority deadline for written testimony and request ZOOM testimony is Monday 2/1/21 at 9:45am

OPPOSE it due to two problems with HB534.
1.  Section (2) has a stand your ground clause added to it for deadly force against the listed violent crimes.  However it conflicts with (5)(b) which still has the original wording "...safely by retreating or by surrendering possession...."  So the second part nullifies the first part.  Not sure if intentional or an error.

2.  Section (5) (B) (i) removes "castle doctorine" in the workplace, requiring you to retreat if possible.

Also support the hunters by testifying on this bill, priority deadline 2/1/21 9am, which clarifies landowner liability protections and could help to open up more private lands for hunting.

Good news, with the help of the Introducer, Rep Eli,  the PDP committee chair Ichiyama granted my request to change the wording in HB534 Fake Stand Your Ground  to HB711 Full Stand Your Ground.  We'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Hb534 passed PDP committee today, 6 more steps to go through which will get harder.  Funny thing is the antis were opposing the bill with us too because they thought it expanded stand your ground.

The wording was gutted and replaced with hb711

Hb101 was deferred.

We need more zoom testimonies, only had 4 today.  It's going to be much harder in the JUD committee coming up next.
