Had the Zoom call today.  Looks like we won this round. HB 534 was merged with 711.  This makes it a true castle doctrine.  Which means if you use deadly force for self defense in the home or business, you are also immune from civil liability.  Why is this important?  Because if you have a legal shoot, the bad guy or their family will try and sue you.  even if you win in court, this will cost you about $30,000 in defense cost.

Thanks to all those that submitted testimony and came on the zoom.

On the zoom had 1 support 534 which removed being able to use deadly force at your business if you can flee first.  This person represented some prison organization and didn't read the bill or know how our currently use of deadly force law works.  She said that the bill was good so people do not use deadly force to defend their property.  This is already a law.

We will have to wait for the next committee hearing.

The west coast NRA rep Dan was on the Zoom.  Last year he flew in and came to some hearings as well.

Even had a few oppose 534 and not realize that they did it wrong. They sited EveryTown and just read the title of the bill.  Not its contents. They kept referring it to as a "stand your ground law" which it isn't. 534 removes the right to stand your ground and not give more areas where 1 doesn't have to retreat. They have No FOcus.

We need a lot more zoom testifiers, only had 4 today.  We need 25+.

Next hearing for the bill will be much much more difficult in JUD.

Correct.  That is why it's important to respond to them with facts of what the bill is.  Almost all of them just read the title that Stephanie Lum posted and assumed it was a stand your ground law.

Most people, including gun people, don't know what stand your ground does.  It's also hard to explain.  I may make a video on it.  ASP is also helping us with a video.
