Hello Joined today as I am moving to the big island soon. I am retired LEO from mainland and it is eye opening to say the least at how I have to pay the price to move to Islands. I am a law abiding citizen I suggest to all protect your rights by staying legal and change the laws in the ballot box. I am looking forward to hearing from other shooters on the big island who are into shooting reloading and any advice on what to bring in with me. I am shipping my stuff in a storage container after we get settled in. I am a former instructor at my police academy and have attended FLETC in GA as well.

Stupid question has anyone ever tried to build their own small range there? I teach a course here on mainland and have had over 300 satisfied students.

I reload and I guess since I am leaving and selling all of my NFA items I will be back to shooting the classics not too sure how I am going to be battling the moisture over there. Any fishing tips are welcome as well. Adios till I get my aloha down pat.

Don't do it!  Is it worth giving up your 2a freedoms to be here?  Not to mention state tax load and overall crushing COL.  Well, if you do move we need more supporters so that is a plus.  GL!

Welcome to the forum!  Great to have a supporter moving in.  If we can get enough maybe things can change!   Your own range is possible if you have the space and your neighbors don't bark about it.

PM me regarding your idea for a range. I have some property on the BI and I intend to move there when I retire. I have an idea regarding building a range on my property. I would like to exchange ideas.

I can also give you some suggestions as to what to bring over with you.

Thanks Inspector I will I have not bought a place yet but I am looking at 3 of the properties that are more than 3 acres. All I am looking at if possible is a U shaped high berm area to cut down on noise and greatly reduce the chance of someone getting hurt. I will get some pictures of my place up here to give you an idea. I have 4 lanes and all of my shooting is done with pistols 22,380,9mm,40&45 caliber.

How is reloading over there? I could not shoot much at all here without my Dillon. Thanks again.

If you are in a subdivision you will have problems with the neighbors and the police. If you are in and surrounded by farmland you may or may not have a problem. Depends if someone complains. I have an idea for an indoor range if you are interested. You can PM me if you want to discuss it. Right now powder is the hard thing to find on island. Primers can be tough but have loosened up a bit lately. Everything else can be mail ordered pretty cheaply.

What area of the island are you looking in?

hey folks, just found this forum by lucky chance checking out KHSC and strolling by the January 2A/HDF fun shoot, and meeting macsak!  It's good to see where a good amount of folks are who champion our gun rights here.  I've been a vicarious enthusiast of guns for a long time, and finally am getting into it.

I support your fight for 'shall issue' concealed carry permits, repealing the standard capacity handgun magazine ban, and knocking out that new proposed legislation about yearly re-registration of each firearm you own.  Keep up the good fight, and keep me in the loop when you need another letter writer.

Hello, all. I'm Johnny from Key Largo, Florida. I've been carrying concealed since 1987 when Florida went shall issue.  We lost Open Carry at the same time and are still trying to get it back.

My hope for all Hawaiians is that you are now on the right track to get your God given unalienable rights to self defense back.  You all have been in bondage way too long. Hawaii is the only state of the 50 I've not visited . I hope to do so very soon, packing!   8)  And eventually meet  a bunch of you stalwarts.

Hey. Just moved to Oahu (Waipahu) from Alaska. Retired military spec ops.

Which ammo dealer do I want to do business with? Read some reviews online and am not eager to deal with guys with over-inflated egos...

Xring is closest to you, but their ammo supply is not huge
After that, the next closest is young guns
They had a sale last weekend, but it might be over
Then the next one is ogc tactical
They have the biggest supply and frequent specials
Security equipment corporation is in town
They have less supply and less frequent sales, but when they do have a sale, it's pretty good
All the shops have their good and bad days
Check em all out
They are all close together in distance if you think in mainland terms

Gun show is 3/22-3/23

Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Welcome, you new guys.... I'm an islander too, Islander.  Born on Manhattan island, raised on Long Island Noo Yawk  :)

Moved to Colorado to go to school, was going to return to NY, but got used to the "Free Air" and stayed.  (Yeah, I know, Colorado's going downhill with all the Coast hyperlibs moving here and trying to screw up this state, too.)

I do believe that the radical and crazy notion that the Founders meant what they said, is gradually soaking through the judicial system.

Hi, Terry. I was born just 12 miles from the Empire State Building in Hackensack, New Jersey ,so I guess I missed it by that much!  But it is obvious these "real" Islanders need as much help as they can get..And more.

The Honolulu Police Department could be a good stand in for the Reichstag, Berlin, 1933. Unbelievable that this corrupt, patriarchal regime could last so long.. A truly closed society since at least 1960. And counting.

There seems to be a lot of Manana going on here.
