Aloha,
I'm Ted.
Retired from the Army after 20 years (Infantry officer), now working at Schofield as a DOD civilian.
Recently back from 6 months in Northern Afghanistan (Mazar-i Sharif) and just bought my very own M4 (a Daniel Defense V2).

Glad I found this forum. Looking forward to meeting folks out on the range and in the gun shops.

Aloha Kakou!   Local boy raised on the east side of Oahu but also have lived Upcountry Maui 12 years, Big Island (Kealakekua) a couple years, a year on mainland in Idaho, and several years in Japan.  Been shooting at Koko Head since hanabata daze in the 60's, and started hunting in the early 70s.  Started out reloading with my dad in the 60s too.  In other words I'm an old fut who likes to reload, shoot, hunt, (and fish, and dive).   Most people call me Ahnko.  Nice to find a local forum fo' talk guns and hunting, and also where I can post guns for sale.

Aloha a hui hou, Ahnko

Hello my names Jason and I came over from the HF which seems pretty dead to me now.   Been a gun owner since 09 after I came back from Iraq, and felt the need to purchase my first firearm.  Been living here in Hawaii since may of 09, but have yet to go to the ranges here.  Being in the reserve, I qualify on my rifle every year, so I am familiar with firearms and firearm safety.  I Collect Russian gear and uniforms and I play airsoft or paintball every once in awhile.   I am looking into trading  selling my Glock 21 gen 3 in the future for an Ak or SKS.  I will need to get a long arms permit but I have heard you can get one signed by your commander if in the military.

What is not to love about the Ak's?  The laminated wood furniture and Bakelite pistol grips on the AKM-47 and AKS-74 just looks downright sexy, compared to the boring look of a black rifle.  From the replica's I own and the akms I held in Iraq, they seem comfortable and very easy to operate.  Never fired an AK before, but it is an experience I am looking forward to in the future.  Still debating on either an AK-74M or AKM-47 as my first ak purchase.  Would love to get a hold of a Type 56 ak such as a Mak 30 if I can find one.

I've been here in the Aloha State for 18 years but am new to 2aHawaii.  Got reintroduced to shooting after a 40 year hiatus.

So what got me started again? Was "gifted" a .32 Beretta, a WWII souvenir that had been sitting in my father's cabinet for about 65 years. I think we took it out twice. (He was never a "gun guy" and I think still has PTSD). After I  took the old Beretta out to the range I realized if I were going to hit something at 25 yards, never mind 50, I'd better find another handgun or two.

So I did.  Now I'm beginning to shoot bullseye competitively and am also interested in silhouette shooting as well. I'm also interested in acquiring a rifle -- either a .243 or .308 bolt action so if there is someone interested in a trade or maybe a purchase, I'm all ears.  I'd like to find something I could take to the range or maybe hunt pigs or deer with on the Big Island.

Have found the regulars at the range to be very fine people who have been very accepting of newbies.  Am very grateful for their generosity of spirit.

Hey everyone new to the forum and enjoying all the info on it. My name is Rick and just getting into shooting. Got my son  his first rifle Ruger 10/22. I have Sig 516, and Ruger .308. Great to see a place where everyone has answered my questions before I have even asked them.

Good Morning All.  Just got back to the mainland, Seatac, WA, after two glorious weeks on Kaua'i.  Found this forum while searching for shooting places/people on Kaua'i.  I am a Specialty Pistol shooter preferring the Thompson Center Encore.  I Also have a couple of XPs.  I hope through this forum to make contact with and support the Hawaii shooters and have a chance to shoot the next time I am in the islands.  I am a member of the NRA, Renton Fish & Game Club, Washington Arms Collectors and more interested in prairie dogs and varmints then big game here on the mainland.  My latest project is a 300 yard Ruger Charger for prairie dogs.  I shoot on a regular basis, every Sunday at Renton F & G.  Aloha & Ma halo.  Slim

Hello Peeps, Got my handgun and long gun permit in 2011, and purchased my first hand gun a Sig P226 Elite.  I fired guns when I was living in Arizona 1993, but never owned a gun till last year 2011.  One of my friends is a gun instructor, and he persuaded me to get my permit.  I finally got my permit, and so now I have a Sig P226, Ruger Mark III .22, and a PWS MK114 5.56.  Now, I'm just waiting to purchase my first AK47, and possibly a 338 Lapua rifle of some kind (maybe). =)  I stumbled on to this forum by googling 'Hawaii Gun Shops'.  Anyway, great forum.  :shaka:
