Hello,

My name is Jason from California.  I will be visiting Hawaii for about 5 months and plan to be bringing a firearm or two.  Here to learn about HI’s laws, shooting locations, and hopefully make a few friends.

I will be going to the big island,  south of Hilo.  Hope to see some of you around at the shooting range and gunshops!

Jason

Well, started with my girlfriend working at a Yoga retreat on the big island.  I wanted to join her, but not at the yoga retreat.

So as I was searching around for housing, I found someone who is willing to let me stay for $200 a month as long as I do some work around the house and babysit from Feb to June.

Girlfriend likes the idea of staying as long as possible, so we went with it.  There's a slight possibility (slight!) that we will stay in Hawaii for a longer time.

Aloha!
Transplant from Az, the land of freedom when it comes to 2a.  I'll be on Oahu for 6-12 months, then maybe over to BI.  I've been coming to Hi for years, & am looking to move permanently.

Semi-retired home builder.. casualty of the housing crash.. Az was hit hard.  But i was close to retiring, anyway, so this helped provide direction!  I've been a casual gun hobbiest over the years.. grew up hunting in Missouri with .22 & 16 ga. pump.. still have the old guns.  I have about 10 different firearms.. from longs to pistols.  Newest is a gen 4 glock 19.. cool new technology, fun to shoot, surprisingly accurate.  A .223 varmint rifle is on my wish list.  I'd like to clang some of those 200-400 yd. steel plates at the range.

When i get settled, i plan on applying for ccw.. don't expect to get it from what i've read here.  Az is open carry, & last summer passed a new concealed carry law.  Anyone without a criminal record can conceal carry.  I don't really carry much, even in Az, but it's nice to know i can if i want.  That's what the constitution says, imo.  It is certainly what the founders intended.

My ancestors came over with the pilgrims in the 1600's for freedom.  I'm accustomed to historical American freedoms, & i won't sit by idly & watch them stripped.  I would like my children & grandchildren to enjoy the same America I & my forefathers knew.

I really like the melting pot/multi-cultural environment of Hawaii.  I'm very tolerant & even enjoy the differences in culture & ethnic backgrounds.  Hawaii is much more liberal politically than other states i've lived in, but I'll get along fine.  It usually comes down to individuals getting to know each other & accepting each other, rather than projecting ethnic stereotypes.  I may look like a haole, but i live aloha & am kama 'aina inside.

I like the ccw project.  Why should the police decide whether we have a good reason to be armed?  That should be challenged.  My reason is because i can.  It is my right as an American to 'keep & bear arms.'  I think all of the anti-gun restrictions are unconstitutional.  I don't plan on carrying a firearm much.. not to the beach.. not to work.  I'd like to take it to the range, or if i'll be in a seedier part of town after dark.  That should be a choice for me, not the Chief of Police.

Anyway, i'm probably preaching to the choir, but i thought i'd post some views to help introduce me.

Dang thought I had posted an introduction on my old account before it had log-in issues.

Anyway, living on Maui, taking classes via online on Oahu. Been buying firearms ever since I got my permit. Would like to someday see CCW here in the islands.

Aloha,

Newbie to this forum but definitely not to shooting. I am from Oahu and I also have children that enjoy the sport of shooting..I just found out about this site from FH. Very nice to see a forum dedicated to our second amendment rights here in Hawaii.

Hi everyone.  I've been reading posts for awhile, finally joined a month or so ago and am finally getting around to posting an intro.  Great site you've got here for the shooting community.  My wife and I took our first gun safety class last year and have pretty much jumped in without looking back.
Once again, thanks for having the site, we both read the interesting discussions.
