“It’s getting to a point where you better lock your house, you better check your doors, it’s good if you have a dog running around inside your house, you set your alarms and we have to get to that kind of world. It seems to be, it is the new normal, unfortunately,” said Louis Siracusa, president of Phoenix Security Hawaii.

Elderly jewelry vendors transporting hundreds of thousands of dollars in merchandise to/from the swap meet every day its open for 25 years.

Even if they weren't comfortable carrying, a friend or relative with a CCW permit could accompany them during transit.

Oh, wait!  No permits issued.

I knew a bar owner who was told to hire armored car at 3am closing time for her taking the cash home.

Regardless of the law, were I in that business.
I'd have a gun on me and a good lawyer on speed dial.
Actually that is my advice for everybody over the age of 60.

It’s actually surprising that no one robbed any of those vendors before.

That’s a lot of gold to fence.   I assume the cops have already talked to the usual suspects that assist in fencing

I wonder if the robbers are diligent enough to only fence a little at a time or will just trade directly for drugs

But carrying that much gold all the time, I assume the vendor knew they would eventually get hit and likely have insurance if they are smart

The price of gold is at an all-time high.  Goldman-Sachs is predicting it'll hit $2,000/oz in the next 12 months.

Easy to see why gold jewelry is being targeted.
