March 12, 2021 - Washington - Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-R.I.) on Thursday introduced the Assault Weapons Ban, an Dianne Feinsteinupdated bill to ban the sale, transfer, manufacture and importation of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, like were used in the massacre in Dayton, Ohio, where the shooter had a 100-round magazine attached to an assault rifle.

Key provisions:

Bans the sale, manufacture, transfer and importation of 205 military-style assault weapons by name. Owners may keep existing weapons.

Bans any assault weapon with the capacity to utilize a magazine that is not a fixed ammunition magazine and has one or more military characteristics including a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock. Owners may keep existing weapons.

Bans magazines and other ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, which allow shooters to quickly fire many rounds without needing to reload. Owners may keep existing magazines.

Requires a background check on any future sale, trade or gifting of an assault weapon covered by the bill.

Requires that grandfathered assault weapons are stored using a secure gun storage or safety device like a trigger lock.

Prohibits the transfer of high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Bans bump-fire stocks and other devices that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire at fully automatic rates.

Exemptions to bill:

The bill exempts by name more than 2,200 guns for hunting, household defense or recreational purposes.

The bill includes a grandfather clause that exempts all weapons lawfully possessed at the date of enactment.

"Owners may keep existing weapons."

There are approximately 8.5M - 12M "assault style rifles" in civilians' hands according to NRA estimates from 2018.  With the spike in sales during the BLM/ANTIFA riots and the pandemic, it has to be much higher now.  News of the looming bill to ban them is going to create yet another buying frenzy worse than after Sandy Hook.

So, if the ban is for "safety", and they are allowing approximately 15M+ rifles to remain in the country (not counting any produced or imported illegally or produced for LE), how does that equal increased safety?  If a crazy person wants to get an AR-15, does anyone believe they won't be able to find one?  Even with a ban in place, the Columbine massacre happened using weapons that were not only banned, but illegal to own without an NFA permit since the 1930s, like the sawed-off shotgun used.

The AR-15 may be the most-owned rifle in the US.  It's at least in the top 10 styles of rifles sold each year since the 2014 lifting of the first AWB.  According to the Heller decision, a firearm that is POPULAR and in COMMON USE is protected from bans.  Given it's massive proliferation in such a short period of being available to civilians, I think AR-15s and AK-47s qualify.

I'm feeling like the Dems won't allow another AWB to pass right now.  If they did, the mostly conservative Supreme Court would absolutely be asked to rule on its lawfulness.  Dems can't risk losing in court and having an unconstitutional AWB stricken down.

That's what I'm thinking anyway.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.

The forefathers had the foresight to implement the 2a because they knew it was a way to prevent stupid politicians from getting too stupid.....

Alas, who knew that it would be the support of the gutless sheeple that gave these stupid politicians the ammunition to implement their anti-2a agenda that we see today.

We have people serving in Afghanistan and Iraq who were born AFTER the attacks on 9/11/2001.

Few people living today were alive during Hitler's time.

The only way future generations learn from the past is for their teachers to teach those lessons.  As far as most Millennials seem to know, Trump IS Hitler, as is every other Republican or Conservative.  They have no reference for comparison -- just a label.

There's no way Biden will win

There's no way the dems will take the senate

There's no way Republicans will vote in favor of gun control bills

Biden just signed a massive pork spending bill into law.

Any wagers as to how much of that it would require to sway enough Senators to vote for an AWB?

How do you think Obama got ACA passed?  Stimulus money to the Dem hold-outs.

I thought Biden had a good chance to win.   Trump was the main factor in him winning and the republicans losing the Senate.   I preached since day one.  Trump was the root of all the losses.  But he has disappeared back to whatever hole he crawled out of and seems to no longer be an major issue.  Anyway back to the subject.  Not even Trump can fuck up the 60 votes needed to pass.  I would place legal wagers with anyone that no major gun bills will ever pass alone.  We see this as an fact as not one senate republican voted for the stimulus.  Which would be far more popular than any gun measure.

I didn't learn about Hitler, WWII, etc in school.  At least I don't remember it.  The attack on Pearl Harbor is about all I remember from school.  The rest is based on my personal interest.  In any case, propaganda was my point.  If those who want to look up and learn from history, cool.  If not, whatevahs as well.

Every evil empire has used propaganda since the beginning of civilization.  It's why many Middle Eastern and African countries still refuse to let girls go to school for basic education in reading, writing, arithmetic, etc.  Keeping the population ignorant makes them easier to control.

Rush termed these ignorant people in the US being dumbed-down as "low-information voters".  It's how the political class convinces them to put them in power.

Germany, Russia/USSR, Central and South American countries, Iraq, Iran, ... all examples of how control of the media and information in general helps control the population.
