Magpul magazine cover clips

Does anyone use those little pop on clips?
PITA to get on and off.  Suppose they are to protect loaded rounds if the magazine is dropped.  They just seem to get in the way most of the time.

Don’t use Magpul mags for my ARs very often. I typ have the clips at the bottom of the mag. Never used them as a cover for loaded mags.

I took them off and threw them in a box somewhere.  I don't see a purpose for them except allowing magpul to charge more for their magazines as an added "feature".

They could protect the feed lips if you drop a full magazine, but the mags are already very durable without them.  They'd be great if you walk in sandstorms every day with exposed magazines, but your mags are covered in pouches anyways, and it's been a while since we've had one in Hawaii.

From what Magpul says, the covers are to protect the ammo from damage in storage and transit as well as free of dirt, debris and other crap that can keep the mag from working.

I find them a little tricky to put on, but taking them off is really easy.

When you use mag pouches on a carrier/belt, which end of the mag goes down?  The open end.  That provides all the protection those mags need -- no covers to fumble with.

But, if the loaded mags are in storage (ammo can, range bag, ...), maybe the covers serve more of a useful purpose.

I'd remove the covers once I put them in a pouch -- mainly because they might not fit or could catch when trying to remove the mag from the pouch.

This guy shows how quickly you can remove the covers:

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I like them. I read somewhere they are supposed to protect the feed lips when loaded with ammo.

I don’t normally use Magpul Mags at the range. I have tested them extensively at the range, but now I just keep them fully loaded just in case. Or for my next run out to the desert so I have some already loaded ready to unload. At the range I use Lancer Mags. The Lancers have run absolutely flawless. I got my Magpuls for $10 each with free shipping and bought 10 of them a few years ago.

I've been using Lancers for the past 3-4 years and they've been awesome.  Too bad they are so damn expensive.   :(

I too threw them somewhere.

I think overtime the feed lips expand outwards if loaded to 30 rounds. Due to pressure and temperature changes. Maybe not so much an issue in hawaii since its pretty steady, like stated above. I only load 27 rounds but i use lancers for my ammo ready mag. I only use magpuls at the range before. Since their cheaper and more readily available.

Ive read that, when magpuls first came out, people were experiencing the feed lips expanding outwards after long periods of storage. Some had issues and some didnt with this problem. Then the gen 2's came with the clip thingys. Then magpul have "enhanced" (lack of a better term) the type of polymer/material/ whatever you wanna call it on their gen 3's.

Easiest fix, dont load them to 30 rounds.

That’s why I leave the Magpuls at home fully stuffed. How can you go wrong for $10????

Lancers are like Glock mags. They just always work and drop free.
