Beware WGS white box 9mm hollow point
« on: March 16, 2021, 07:32:57 AM »
WGS has been selling a unmarked white box of 9mm hollow points for about $35.00/50rds. I recently was told that these are reloads from their shop. Just a heads up, i was checking some of the rounds in my case gauge and a few of them were not resized properly. Does this affect performance. I guess only if it doesn't fit.

I've seen those at the range, but have not shot any.

Did they cause any malfunctions?

I think it depends which end of the case is holding up the round from chambering all the way into the barrel and/or the gauge. If it is being held up at the rear it was not sized all the way down and could be due to a Glock bulge. Some sizing dies do not size far enough down to remove the Glock bulge. Ask me how I know.  :-\

If the case is being held up at the front of the case (and not the rear) it usually means it is not crimped or needs to be properly crimped.

During my reloading of (Who knows how many 10’s of thousands) 9mm the two most common reasons for not chambering properly in a gauge and/or barrel are usually one of these two reasons. There obviously could be other reasons. If you happen to have a factory crimp die you might want to try and crimp a round and see if it chambers after that.

I didn’t have time to complete my thoughts earlier.

I would not try and fire these if they don’t pass the plop test. Drop the round in the barrel or gauge. It must drop all the way in with gravity and fall out on its own when turned upside down. The first time I found out that my dies were not removing the Glock bulge the round jammed hard into the barrel of my pistol. I just happened to be shooting with a very good certified gunsmith and it literally took him almost 10 minutes to disassemble the pistol and remove the round. I went back and gauged almost 2,000 rounds and fixed everyone that didn’t pass the test. When I load 9mm now I test every round. Not one out of every ten as I used to. Also, instead of using the RCBS crimp in the die I bought the Lee factory crimp die. It does a much better job of setting a proper crimp on semi auto cartridges for me.

I went thru a few boxes of those in a glock 45 no problems/malfunctions, I believe those are X-Treme 124g CPHP's, from Bushido.

I just bought one box from WGS today, didn't notice the headstamps are different. After close inspect, there are some different stamps on it. Are those ammo safe to shot?

I believe you are correct.
I did not shoot them, but the guy next to me didn't have any problem with his.

Interesting.

Looks like stocks in components are recovering (*** knocking on wood ***).  I'm finally set up with stuff for 9 mm.  Not in "need" just yet, but hoping to get back into shooting more often.

Can you take some pics of the rounds that didn't pass the plunk test?  I'm interested in seeing the bullet, case mouth, and crimp (or possible lack thereof).

also, i'm curious what kind of bullet the manufacturer used.

That ammo is made by bushido arms for WGS and the bullet is 124 grain I shoot them pretty regularly and have had no issues at all.

Interesting.  I have boxes of 9 and 45 from Bushido.  I'll have to check it out.  That said, I have zero concerns shooting ammo produced by Bushido.

My opinion is that those rounds are fine.
Even if they don't fully clear a case gauge,  that doesn't mean they won't work in an actual gun.
A majority of shooters are using blocks

I've shot about 800rds of Bushido's range ammo since he began selling and have had zero issues.  In fact, his ammo shoots the most accurate of all my factory range ammo.
