Wow that seems like lot of rifle for < 100 yards :-)

I’ve only used one non scoped rifle for hunting, it was a garand.  I was blessed with the job of pushing from the bottom of a gulch.  I only saw one deer and I think I was more startled than the deer was... I think I stepped back and didn’t even get to shoulder the garand.   I just remember thinking holy moly that thing is pretty big before it ran off

When you're young, everything is about power. My 17 yo cousin, year older than me, had a 300 Win Mag.  We wanted guns more powerful than the old guys who used 30-06, 30-30, 308 and 270s. He was the first on Molokai to have a 300 WM and I was the first to get a 7MM RM. This was back in 1966.
Happily living in Puna

Interesting.

My impression is that lanai hunters use lighter recoiling calibers like 243 and Molokai hunters use bigger hitting calibers like 300wm, 7mm rem, 30-06 and 270.

The kids/guys around my neighborhood seemed to mainly bow hunt.  Only the richer people seemed to have rifles.

(We borrowed rifles)

I'm not a hunter, but i watch some hunting shows on Outdoor TV
one of my favorites to watch is Wild Boar Fever.  driven hunts in France sometimes other countries.  they shoot offhand, boars are on the move.  looks like pretty difficult shots that they make

Noticed that they're using Red Dots for quick pick up shots.
