Word is he checked in alone and his wife was looking for him. Saw the charge on the credit card and went to the hotel.

Does checking in alone to a hotel sound familiar? #everythingistinfoil

The submariners have it hard being in frequent deployments trapped on a submarine for months at a time without talking to their families.  Any problems in the marriage get amplified by the time away.

I wonder if this kind of stuff happens all the time or are they just highlighting gun deaths now.

I've worked with several former submarine officers.  Never noticed any alarming signs that they were any more or less stable than anyone else.  Maybe the enlisted and officers have different situations aboard a sub, but when someone hints at the job affecting a submariner's personal life to the point of murder, I have to ask if there is any data suggesting that there is a higher incidence if violent behavior in that career group than others?  If not, then the job must be tied to the individual's ability to cope, not the job itself.
