Is it required by law to register your firearm within x amount of days?  I did it 10 days after once.  I mentioned it to the officer, telling him that I had an emergency and completely forgot about it.  He didn't make a comment either way, just finished the paperwork and gave it back to me.

In the case of an out-of-state arrival, within 3 days.  Not 3 working days, just 3 days.  Now, they don't have any way to know when you arrived with the gun, so it's not an actual problem.  But it would mean that you had broken the law.  If, you know, such things kept you up at night.

For in-state purchases, you have a little more room.  5 days?  I bought a .22 rifle from Sports Authority once, and neglected to get it to HPD within 5 days.  at about 4pm on the 5th day, I got a phone call.  From HPD.  Asking whether I had taken possession of this rifle, and if I was aware that I had missed my deadline for registering it.  I was very apologetic and promised to bring it down the following day.  They didn't harass me further.  But they were obviously watching.

Registered a newly bought firearm during the Christmas Holidays (off a sale) one year and was like two days over.... they didn't even give it a second thought....

So what all you guys are saying is that just hypothetically you were late, but in actuality you were right on time....

Since hpd is not open on the weekends I don't even count those as days. Why shoulod they be counted if they not open and we can't register. I follow a Mon-Fri. So if I buy a gun on Thursday, 1,2, oh saturday and Sunday don't count, 3,4,5.
