From my observation, many have slowly adopted ELECTRIC vehicles and HYBRIDS as their economic situations permitted, and as their needs dictated.

You can't force Americans out of their cars with higher gas prices.  Nor can you make them buy NEW electric vehicles if they have bad credit, insufficient income, etc. as they can't qualify for a $30K - $35K car loan.  Many people buy used cars because they can afford them.  Not many efficient electric vehicles available on the secondhand market.  Who wants to buy a 10yr old Prius with batteries predicted to go bad in a year of two?

California experienced major blackouts during quite a few Summers in recent memory.

Imagine if not only homes and businesses, but also 75% or more or cars, were without power for days or weeks at a time.

But, hey!  That's a great way to FORCE people to accept NUCLEAR ENERGY in their states, just like forcing them to convert to electric cars.
