I have a Tacoma.  If the financial analysis (price premium vs. gas saved = break even point) makes sense, AND the vehicle performance was at least as good as the gas model (speed, range between charges/fill-ups, power/load capacity), AND the benefit to the environment was documented (production of the raw materials and parts actually use fewer fossil fuels than the gas model), then I'd be fine trading my Tacoma in for the electric/hybrid model.

What I don't want is someone lecturing me about "compromises to save the planet," when our government leaders continue to travel in private and leased jets, own multiple homes, and get driven around in huge gas powered SUV convoys.
Or himself doesnt own an EV.

In my small circle of friends, I can confidently state that none of them would give up their 4Runners, Tundras and Tacomas for an EV. From my observations riding and driving in traffic we have a deep affinity for large trucks and fast cars.

Tesla is making a truck, so is Ford and many others.  Large EV suvs too.

My next vehicle might be a cybertruck

Lets play a game. Say ur condo was far from work. And both condo and work doesnt have a charger? U cant install a charger in your condo stall due to aoao bylaws.

Would find somewhere and wait 5 hours to charge?

Easy to talk  when its easy.

Yeah I would figure it out.  My next vehicle will be electric.   I've decided that.   Only question is when.  It's also wasteful to throw away a perfectly fine car.

Mandatory Green Initiatives and higher gas prices for all to force us into EVs, but he'll wait until he gets around to it.

He doesnt feel he needs an EV yet. But feels majority of everyone else should have 1.

Again. Not about you. What about all those families that are struggling to get by. Our political leaders always campaign on an affordable Hawaii and they mandate something expensive as this.

I hope you researched this.

The CyberTruck (CT ) was announced 3 years ago and pre-orders began.  There are about 700K pre-orders since.  Granted, not all 700K people will still order one.  But if you didn't put in your pre-order then bottom of the list you go.

They announce pretty much semi annually when the CT will begin production. Even early 21 was announced, and no they're saying end of 21. Same thing happened in 20 and 19.

Tesla made and sold 146K cars in the 1st quarter of 21 which is all 4 models combined.  So if they had to also throw in the CT, there still will be a very long back log.  Even with the new TX gigafactory completed since they are closing the CA one.

If you ordered any Tesla at the end of April 21, the ETA was up to 10 weeks.  Beginning May 1st, Tesla sold out of all 2nd quarter cars, which means any further 2Q orders will be fulfilled in the 3rd quarter.

If you try and order any model today, it can take up to 12 weeks.  Because Tesla's are made to order.

So with the above being said, this would mean at soonest if the CT is released at the end of this year, you will wait till at least end of 2022 for it to arrive.  But realistically probably longer.  So you will be having your gas powered car for a long time more, thus killing the environment.

And yet you didn't buy a cheaper used EV to last until the CT arrives.  Pot----Meet Kettle

Not really ill pay the higher fees and taxes along the way.

I've yet to see any explanation that demonstrates how paying "higher fees and taxes along the way", costs that were designed to force you to buy an EV, are used in any way to help solve the problem.  You make the government more powerful (money is power), while doing nothing for climate change as you fill up your car at the cheapest gas pump you can find on island to be able to afford it.

Obama threw a bunch of money at Solyndra to the tune of $535 million in federal loan guarantees when they were failing.  After paying themselves massive bonuses and higher salaries for a year, they folded anyway.

Money doesn't fix problems if the people doing the spending have other priorities.

Not much different than carbon exchanges that Al Gore hawked.

"I want to save the planet, but I also don't want to change my ways now.  How about I pay a fee to offset my hypocrisy?"
