I was waiting to pick someone up from a root canal in the Ala Moana building so I walked thru the mall to burn time, I went into the Tesla store and a SMOKING HOT chick talked to be for a solid 30 mins answering questions about the tech. Never once did she go salesman push to get me to buy, I guess they figure the product sells itself if you are interested in an EV. Local Service was their biggest issue and they knew it, didnt try to hide it.
The chick was surprisingly knowledgeable about all the mechanical questions I had (electric braking, cornering assist via speed controllers at the motors etc etc). They make a decent product, and they know they are gouging early adopters to push forward into affordability. They are literally paying 10s of thousands of extra dollars for better software in the iPad brain running the car, nothing more.
Edit - I am surprised that there aren't entrepreneurial dweebs selling thumb drives to reflash the bios to hotrod the lower end models into top tier. That's the end of the Fast & Furious franchise when they do.
Their sales people do not work on commission, that's why they're not pushy like normal dealerships. You even order the car online and not from the sales people. You can order it at their stores, but all they will do is provide a computer and you go to tesla.com. But at least they will be next to you if you have any questions. You also don't enter any salespersons name if anyone helped you.
IMO, Tesla is a new bread of car seller. With the 100% online ordering it takes about 5 minutes to order 1. Compared to a dealership where the salesman looks what's in stock or when it will arrive. Tesla's are pretty much made to order. Which is also their downfall because you wait 2-12 weeks for a car. But it doesn't seem to stop them from making $.
So with the above being said, Omni could easily order a EV in less than 5 minutes from his phone while on the toilet. But, per his words, right now is not the right time to be even more green.
When you order, you put down a $100 non refundable deposit and can cancel your order at anytime prior to delivery. In the mainland, they drop the car off in your driveway. But HI is not set up for that, so you have to go to the service center in Kakaako (next to UFC gym) to pick up your car.
There's a vid of a UFC fighter winning and in his inring speech, he ask Elon where's his car. He ordered it 6 months ago. Elon tweeted that it's on the way.
