Right on, thanks for the info - I'll just have to get my hands on them and see which feels best. I'm a 1911 guy trying to find something a little more compact.

I'm open to other suggestions, these are just the ones that have caught my eye. Not a fan of Glocks, so that's why I didn't list em. Not in a rush to get one either, I'm happy with my 1911s.

ok, I see
I'm a fan of the 1911 too
I wasn't a fan of the Glock for a while.  they seemed really ordinary, boring. but pretty recently i just got a G19 at the suggestion of a friend. added light, holster, red dot, suppressor height night sights, and i really like it.  i can appreciate the large following of aftermarket parts and accessories for such an "ordinary" firearm such as the G19 or almost any Glock, and they are very reliable
thats the end of my sales pitch for the ordinary and obsolete G19
I havent shot any of the firearms you listed so i can't really comment on those

That sounds like a great approach.  If you can't find anyone, maybe we can have another 2a range day at the silhouette side.

Like this post for so many reasons.  I own a variety of handguns.  The Glock 17 was my second a while back.  Started training and shooting competition, etc with it.  Then started my journey of trying a lot of different handguns.  Eventually came full circle and back to Glock 17 and 19s.  I shoot those (when I did shoot more) probably 80% or more of the time.  My personal preference for many reasons, but I definitely do encourage folks to try, test, etc out for themselves.  But also because you're such a Ruger and revolver fan boy, it made me almost giggle to read that post from you.   ;D  Soon you'll be saying similar praises for Camrys.

That's true, the abundance of parts and accessories is something I need to factor in. I'll give Glocks a try like the others, they just have more ground to make up.

I've gotten into NASCAR this season, mostly because of the Super 6 betting thing.  They have the Supra in the Xfinity series.

My buddy's FIL is super into NASCAR and even before this I would talk about it with him.  I used to ask him how can NASCAR have Camaros and Mustangs up against Camrys.  Haha.  Yeah, I understand that they aren't "stock cars" and that it's about aerodynamics.  But still.  At least the Supra is a lot more sporty than the Camrys.

Sorry for the tangent. . . back to handguns. . .  ;D

The aftermarket support for Glock is great, and to a certain extent keeps me from using the other handguns I have for training.  Or for a new handgun, sometimes the cost of mags can be a LOT.  As well as sometimes very limited selection on stuff like holsters, mag pouches, etc.

PPQ has ok aftermarket support and I think getting better.  Have you looked into the Sig P320 line?

I get very sweaty palms, so the grip on the VP9 is slippery for me.  So I added on grip tape from talon grips (sandpaper one).

I also have an M&P 9C that has a rubber type grip on it. It works for sweaty palms better than plastic grips, but I'm not a fan of the squishyness.

To me the CZ P10C has the best aggressive grips for my sweaty palms.

My hands get sweaty, esp at Koko Head range days, as well as the many humid and hot days in Hawaii.  I like the texture of the Glock Gen 4/5 as well as moderate stippling.  I don't care for the grip tape or that carbide finish.  While it has good grip, it tends to degrade over time, or at least too quickly for me.

I've tried the grips on the Glock 4/5 and did like them too.  So far my grip tape is holding up, but I dont shoot as much as you do.  But I think I will be replacing them soon.  I did look into the graphite and since the VP9 rips are removable, just graphiting the grips and not the frame of the gun.

Not sure if OP has sweaty palms too.

Nope, I haven't looked into Sigs yet, but I'll get there. At the moment, I'd prefer hammer fire vs striker, but admittedly my experiece with striker pistols are very limited, and I'm definitely open to having my mind changed.

The PPQ was recommended by someone which is why I'd like to try it, but it certainly ain't a pretty pistol (in my opinion).

Yep, team sweatly palms. Don't need a super aggressive grip, but I'll need some tack for sure.

Walther will stop making the PPQ soon because it's being replaced with the PDP.  But both share many common parts. So even if you get a PPQ, you should be able to find parts as they need replacing.

I know a few folks who like the grip tape as well as the carbide finish.  I'll have to ask them how it holds up.  I was interested in the package that Rookworx does.  Was talking with Craig/RedLetter about it (they know each other well and sort of share space) and I think even that finish wears faster than stipping, but not positive on it.  I mean I like it for grip, but not CCW (as if we can really CCW).

Any specific purpose or intended use?  Just curious, no right/wrong answer, but can help with perspective on feedback.

For the hammer fired or striker, your asks to try seemed to be more striker, so figured that was preference.  What makes you prefer hammer fired?  Again, just curious on perspective.

PPQ's ain't pretty?  :( Haha.  Just kidding.  I personally like the look, but yeah, I know many who don't like the looks.

That's why when I carry in Vegas, I wore a wife beater under my t-shirt. 1 cause of the sandpaper rubbing on belly for AIWB.  The 2nd reason was when doing 1 hand draw, with cloth under the t-shirt, the shirt will stick up when lifting it to clear. This way it doesn't come down as fast and you wrap your shirt around your pistol grip area.

Main purpose would be home defense. Love my 1911, but I'd like to see if there's something I can control a little better. I haven't shot 9s enough to know if I like it over 45s for everyday use, so I look forward to shooting em to see which I prefer.

Hammer fired is what I'm used to I suppose, I also prefer a manual safety. Not sure if that's an option on strikers, or if I'm just misinformed on that...only a couple years into shooting so forgive my ignorance if I'm talking out of my ass here. Again, I'm open to strikers, but my preference at the moment is hammer.

Hehe I should've said the stock PPQ isn't a looker, I'm not a fan of logos/markings on the slide...just give me a plain one and I'd be ok with it.

HD

There are striker fired with manual safety.  M&P and Sig P320 (one variant) come to mind.  Manual safety is another discussion, but I'm a fan of keep it simple with striker.  My personal preference from my learning journey.  Appreciate those who want to try and find out for themselves.

Making my PPQs sad. . .  I was gonna let you try, but now they shy.  Haha.  Nah, but seriously, once the fun shoots start up or if can have a 2a range day, you can shoot my PPQs.  Also macsak's P30  8)

Some striker fire have external safeties. P320, m&p 9c are 2 that come to mind.
