That was really dumb to stop and argue with the mentally ill crowd and served no purpose other than ego gratification. He ended up with a face full of asphalt and had his gun taken away as a reward.

On the other hand I do not expect these kinds of situations to continue on much longer with bullying Marxists meeting little to no resistance. Sooner or later this will go kinetic.

People think they gangster until it’s time to be gangster.  Then the crowd thins...

Very sad to see.  That old man was just fed up with these assholes.  Civil war is a reality in the future.

Not full scale.  Pockets here and there.  People sniping at each other.  Endless chaos and unrest.

Protests while carrying guns?  All is lost.
Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

these protests are stupid as fuck.  blocking traffic and shit.  i won't say everything on my mind because it's too much.

In all my training as a civilian carrying a gun, If you feel the need to pull your gun out, you use it.
Don't talk, you shoot. You aren't a cop or in the military.  This is a deadly force situation.  If it isn't a deadly
force situation, you have no business pulling out your gun.
You do NOT brandish.  As soon as you show your gun you are now a threat to your opponent
and subject to be shot.
I know that is rather binary, but the way laws are written, you as an armed civilian are always presumed to be
wrong and you will have to prove you weren't.

I would partially agree.  When I took my CCW class in NV, my instructor gave us an example of brandishing.  He had a student call him and say thank you because after getting her permit,  was walking back to her car in an empty lot at 1am after work (retail).  This lot is fenced off, so there is no using the lot to cut thru to go somewhere else.  A vehicle entered and 3 guys got out and started to walk toward her while she is at her car digging in her purse to find her keys.  There was no other cars around or people.  So it's obvious they're walking toward her.  She reached into her waistband and grabbed her firearm.  All 3 guys stopped and turned around and got back into the car.  She then called 911 and they found the guys.  But because no laws were broken, no arrest were made. They just gave the guys a talking to.

So this was an instance of brandishing and not pulling the trigger.  But in the video above, I would agree with you for the following reasons:

1) The others have a gun too, so he could have gotten shot since he pulled his gun
2) Could he have stayed inside his car?  Once he leaves, now the anti 2a prosecutor may look at it as inciting violence and not staying safe inside his car.  He had the opportunity to drive away.
3) Once 1 & 2 above, now the situation escalates even further as shown in the video.

Lol, I can remember a scene in "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"  Tuco I think was his name (he was the ugly one.)

He shot a guy dead and then said "If you're gonna shoot, SHOOT, don't talk...... ;D

As I stated I gave a very binary example. I go by the 7 meter rule.  I would have said "stop and state your intentions".
With no stopping or answer,  and having no escape method, would have drawn and fired at 7 meters range.
Pick up your spent shells.
Get in your car and then drive home.
Let the cops figure it out.

Based on everything I've ever learned, when you are in a car and being threatened, you STAY IN THE CAR.  Unless they order you to get out at gunpoint, stay in the car.  If someone points a weapon at you, and you feel you can evade them shooting at you, then HIT THE GAS.  If you run over protestors, they should not have been in the road in the first place.  You have a buffer of steel and glass between yourself and the threat.  Don't give that up unless you have to.

I remember the story of  someone being surrounded by a bunch of motorcyclists and being harassed and threatened.  They pushed a bike out of their way and headed for the nearest police station.  No charges filed against the driver due to the circumstances.

Since I would only get out if my life was being threatened, and if I were carrying a firearm, I would start shooting as soon as the door was opened or window was down.  It's not easy to deescalate a mob, so talking is useless.

This is the shitty part, due to the actions of assholes (blocking the road), people are at the mercy of the prosecutor.  Do they want to make a name for themselves, or do they support0 antifa/blm?  All we can do is mentally prepare for as many "what if's" as possible.

Since this happened in OR, I will expect charges to be filed on the driver.  OR prosecuted a camera man who drew his gun when a group of people started to approach him and yell at him.  He got 5 years IIRC.

People in CCW states are arrested often for drawing a weapon.  Without a witness or video to corroborate your story, there's no way to prove you were in fear for your life short of pulling the trigger.  Using the gun to scare away a would-be attacker is a crime -- not just brandishing, but may be aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

One method is call 911, leave the line open, and then warn the attacker to stay where they are - that you are armed and will shoot them if they come any closer.

Another is to leave the firearm holstered, don't tell the attacker you are armed, and try to deescalate the situation.  Threatening to shoot someone often has the opposite affect -- they might see it as a challenge, not a warning to be heeded.  Wait until you feel there is a perceivable threat to your life, then draw AND FIRE.  Theoretically, you should never draw a weapon in public unless you intend to shoot.  If the shot misses and the threat runs away as fast as his sagging pants allow, stop firing.  It's a simple test:  if you felt threatened enough to draw your firearm, why did you not feel threatened enough to pull the trigger?

Easier said than done.  Once you have that sight on a breathing human being, it's often very difficult to follow through and fire.  If you hesitate and the person leaves, tell the Cops that the presentation of your weapon was sufficient to stop the threat.  Don't tell the Cops you tried to scare them away.

In fact, don't tell the Cops ANYTHING other than you'd like your lawyer present before giving any statements -- then shut the hell up!  If you didn't injure or kill anyone, the worst thing you can do is explain your actions under duress at the scene.

This is numero uno. I rather walk away and be wrong, than stay and be right and end up in jail.

We might get concealed carry sooner than we think. These issues could all become very real in the not too distant future
