not gonna happen according to economist-at-heart, who says that the FED and central banks will handle it like they claim they will...

Cause obviously it was inflation that hacked that oil pipeline and is starting to limit gas because of environmental impacts.  :geekdanc:

As a bus ad major I believe in the free market. People have the choice to buy or not and sellers have the freedom to sell at what ever price they want.
Thats why i never mentioned they cant do what they do and mentioned ethics.

So u are right, they can charge what ever they want and i can choose to buy or not buy. But i will remember who is gouging and if they ever need a favor, the answer will be no.

Same goes with shops that dont help support out rights. I choose not to shop there and let noobs know to not shop there as well.

It would be nice and I acknowledge all the sellers that did not gouge but just wanted to point out the 'science'

But how do you know for sure that they engaged in price gouging? do you know how much they paid for their product? do you know how much they paid for shipping?

how are you defining price gouging? if you are just comparing the lowest prices in town and the highest prices, I could give an example like say i buy a 20lb generic bag of rice from costco, and 1lb "organic" "gluten free" super duper bag of rice from whole foods. So then are we gonna be saying that whole foods is price gouging?

Im not saying it didnt happen, just something to think about before you accusing places of doing things. and everyone saying they arent naming these places, but there are only so many shops on the island...

I am not going to name names, but I recently bought a firearm from a LGS named above as not gouging, but the price was noticeably higher than previous price and well above MSRP to a level that I would call gouging.  its still one of my favorite LGS, people are helpful and friendly and they know me by name, great customer service.  that's why I will not name names.
I still bought it bc its my choice to pay more, and there wasn't anything else comparable to what I want available anywhere local or online, so I paid more
I had to make a choice: pay more, or wait for something that may never come for a long long time
I feel that in these times, prices will go up and shops need to make money to stay in business.  law of supply and demand.
in the near future there will be more inflation across the board.  gas prices going up. on the mainland gas stations running out of gas.  it's going to get worse with Biden making the dumb dumb decisions he is making, or whoever is making the decisions for him.
back to topic: the best store that I have encountered during the pandemic that does not gouge or gouges the least is SEC

I understand what you are saying.  I  recently bought a firearm from a LGS that I felt was a bit high but I was willing to pay it.

I do research on the internet and try to find out the MSRP and the going street price, then go from there.

I think ammo will never go down to prices pre-covid.  That old man occupying the POTUS seat might tax the ammo and firearm manufacturers to the point where ammo and firearms will be out of reach for many people.

Me and others talk about who is gouging and their reasons.  So someone who lost their job and selling their inventory so they can pay the bills is more ethical than someone who still has their job, but just trying to make extra cash on the side.  Gouging without a good reason does not help the 2a cause.
Well now, isn't it reassuring that we have our own self appointed panel of sanctimonious critics to pass judgement on others.

But how do you know for sure that they engaged in price gouging?

I think gouging is when demand rises sharply, and the retailers raise prices on items they bought before the demand increased.  Their cost wasn't affected by the higher demand, but they are taking advantage of the demand to ask for more money.

An example would be after a hurricane.  If a store raises the prices of lumber, chainsaws, and other materials needed to clean up and repair the damage left, that's definitely gouging.  Those products didn't cost more to sell after the hurricane than before.

Another would be selling bottled water and bread for 2-3 times what it was sold at before.

Then there are the scalpers.  They scoop up what people are clamoring to buy and try to make a profit on it.

There are laws in some states that punish gougers and scalpers especially after natural disasters.

Not sure how we can equate a hurricane with a firearm panic-buy in terms of fair vs. unfair pricing.

Businesses typically charge what the market will bear.  If one store always has a better selection, they may charge more than the next dealer just because they know they are more competitive inventory-wise.  The second store might keep prices lower to compete on price.

So, although there is a shortage of inventory in gun and ammo now, I don't think "gouging" applies to dealers unless you live where you have to buy a new gun to survive.  If this were the Zombie Apocalypse, then anyone jacking-up gun and ammo prices would be gouging!

Just my opinion.  I think too many people accuse sellers of gouging just because prices rose quickly.  Since there's a gun buying process that takes longer in some states than others, it pays to plan ahead, shop around, and avoid impulse buying no matter what the current market environment may be.

If you want it bad, you'll get it bad.

Most did not gouge, its only a few. So thats good. I even know guys giving ammo to noob friends who dont have any or selling it at what they got it for, pre covid price.

Is that supposed to explain your opinion and try to convince others that they might not have correctly assessed the situation?

Or is this an indication that someone can't handle the truth?

Just curious.  It could go either way.

Yup.  CTD was noted as upping their pricing on stuff like mags (and other stuff) a couple of times.  Where folks on other forums noted say a given mag listed as $12.99 online and then announcement/event then suddenly 2-3x times that.  Yeah, I get supply and demand, but they are some stuff go up 10x overnight.

nope, our resident economist says if you increase supply, that increases demand...
